Vince...look at their entire teams

Pittsburgh:

Crosby, Malkin, Kessel, Letang, Guentzel, MAF

Washington:

Ovi, Backstrom, Oshie, Kuz, Carlsson, Holtby (and took forever to break through)

Chicago:

Kane, Toews, Hossa, Saad, Keith, Seabrook

Vancouver hasn't won anything

Those teams you mentioned that won a cup have 6 studs (or were studs when they won the Cup)

- Stripes77

I mean Stripes... I like you a lot and I def don't want to argue about it... but I would say that there are 2-3 STAR players on those teams you listed and then top tier support players around them... just like the NBA.

WSH had Ovie and Backstrom as top 15 STAR players.. the rest are just VERY good support players but no one is arguing that Oshie is a top 15 player in the NHL.

Chicago had Kane, Toews, Keith, Seabrook... All STAR players... other guys like Hossa, Saad, Kruger... nah.. just very good support players.

PIT had Crosby, Malkin, and Letang as STAR players.. they won it with and without Fleury, Geuntzel, Hossa, Kessel, etc. Those are just very good support players.

That's my point. If you can legit argue to me that Hossa, Oshie, Oduya, or whatever guys on those teams that won a cup were a top 15 player in the NHL.. you are lying. They were on a team lead by 3 stars.

I got it as an alert from the app too. I know Tony Granato but not Don... right? Wasn't Tony like the HC in MIN or COL or something?

Apparently Bales was only able to leave if given a promotion to an "Assistant Coach" role as opposed to a goaltending coach., that according to the Canes PR staff.

Colorado.

I don't know who Don Granato is either. Hopefully not a colleague from the Soccer Team he ran.

Don Granato (born August 11, 1967) is an American former ice hockey player and former assistant coach with the Chicago Blackhawks. Granato was previously head coach of the USA Hockey National Team Development Program and the Worcester IceCats and Chicago Wolves of the AHL. He was also head coach of the Columbus Chill and Peoria Rivermen of the East Coast Hockey League (with whom he won the Kelly Cup as a coach in 2000). He also coached the Green Bay Gamblers and Wisconsin Capitols of the United States Hockey League. He most recently was an associate coach with the Wisconsin Badgers men's hockey team. He is now a assistant coach of The Buffalo Sabres

During the 2000–01 AHL season, Granato won the Louis A. R. Pieri Memorial Award as the outstanding coach of the AHL.

In March, Granato assumed an assistant coaching position under his brother, Tony, with the Wisconsin Badgers men's ice hockey team.[1] On June 15, he became an assistant coach, along with Ulf Samuelsson, under Joel Quenneville of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks.[2]

He is also the brother of Cammi and Tony, and the brother-in-law of Ray Ferraro.

Sure they were lead by 3 true HOF players (who they drafted mind you!)

But they also had a roster of really really good depth

This team is nowhere near that and now look at Chicago, they're in cap hell going forward because of the contracts they paid (yes they have their cups though)

He traded for a Conn Smythe winner and a Vezina finalist. Just not on Buffalo
- Michael Pachla

which makes you wonder.. was he all that bad a trading or was it his coaching, management and support staff that is to blame

raw deal

If Botts can use #31 and whatever reasonable assets needed to land a proven player from one of those teams, great. But that #7 is almost untouchable, imo
- Michael Pachla

I did too much research on top prospects to see #7 traded.

Agreed... that was my point... you have a window. You do what is necessary to take your shot at the championship. Just like the Raptors did.

Eichel, Dahlin, Skinner.... maybe.... JUST maybe. C'mon lady luck.

The one thing I will add as I just edited my original post

All those teams drafted their studs

Eichel and Dahlin are our studs (hopefully)

We forgot Sharp on Chicago... Helluva player. That team might be the most stacked team I can remember. Sharp was drafted by Philly though. The GS Warriors of that era.

I do believe that LAK follow the same model.. Quick, Doughty, & Kopi. Studs.

Yeap.

The Sabres draft Cole Caufield.

Okay see you in three years when he just might be scoring 20 goals, and then the Sabres have to pay him.

Meanwhile the Sabres struggle for the next two years to even make the playoffs. Fans grow more and more aggravated, Botts is fired and Kruger is let go.

Sounds fun

I’m looking forward to Casey finally making his NHL debut in 2021-2022...... 7th OA pick will be on our 3rd line starting 2020-2021. It’s the insulation of these prospects with vets who can actually play hockey im more worried about.
