Was Orlov Niskanen’s most frequent D partner last year in WA?
- Marc D

Orlov and provorov are very similar in playing style. Not just bc Russians.

Hope Provy has a higher upside but I like Orlov’s game

I like this trade; I was hoping Wash would move Nisky - not because I don't like him - but I think he needed a change of scenery.

Sometimes you can just tell when a player needs to move on; he helped us win last year, and this year he sort of just seemed...ambivalent a bit?

I think he is a smart person / player, so he should be able to help the younger guys (as he speaks to in his interview).

Gudas has more mettle, and is definitely not as refined, but that is what we lacked this year a bit.

Could be good for both clubs.

This is how he stacks up to Flyers dmen on hits per 60mins:

Hagg 11.14
Gudas 11.12
Folin 8.91
Morin 8.73
Myers 7.81
Niskanan 5.71
Friedman 4.78
Provorov 3.59
MacDonald 2.34
Gostisbehere 1.8
Sanheim 1.68

(he was ranked 4th on the Caps' blueline)

Lol what is the qualifier here because I’m pretty sure Morin played like 8 games in the nhl

We’re essentially playing niskanen 7 mil a year
- 2Real

Will you be happy if we waive AMac? That will save 1.075M, so by your logic, we can say we're paying Niskanen less than he made for the caps. It's "essentially" the same.

Have to look at per 60 stats in the right perspective. A player who is a hitter such as Haag who doesn't play huge minutes will have his hits per 60 inflated. A player who plays higher minutes and picks his spots of when to hit can have his stat total diluted. It can be, and I emphasize can be a misleading stat. It tries to make it all equal but it really doesn't. I can it some cases but not across the board.

Good point. Or we can randomly apply to any other player if it helps the narrative.

Fellas, Gudas is inconsequential to any success or failures we would have had over the next two seasons. He would have walked as a UFA. This is a good move. No it isn't a huge "put us over the top move" but we will be okay with it.

We still have to rely on our young players stepping up. Myers is a stud. Sanheim will continue to develop. Provy and Ghost bounce back. Morin will hit everything.

Stop. Please.

I love it. But this is the first one I've played in years. That said, the main story isn't very long and I'd wait for it to drop in price a bit.

So much stuff to unlock though if you're into that sort of stuff.

I may be wrong, but is Niskanen the first player flyers have had on their roster who won a cup since Vinny? Yes Gudas can be considered a vet but he hasn’t been in several long cup runs. I think he can be a good guy for our young guys. A coach can only do so much to calm nerves.

I don't think you can over analyze that "veteran presence". This is not a sexy trade. It is a solid trade. Caps may have gotten better of it as they get a younger dman and shed some cap. They will have to resign Gudas next year. We have Nisky for two years and he will help our d develop.

Gudas will do his job on the 3rd pairing. He’s a solid player there. He did a good job cleaning up his game this past year. He’s always going to walk a fine line with the Hitting, it’s his dumb stick swinging that he needs to control.

Is there much left with niskanen?

Okay, this comment is just ridiculous.

First, people are mad about the age and money exchanges between Gudas and Niskanen and they should be because it’s ridiculous the amount of cap we took on.

Calling Myers a stud is premature.

We have to worry about Morin making a hit and being out another full season because he’s been riddled with injuries since we drafted him.

I think you’re on the wrong side of who needs to get a grip, or at least educate yourself by reading an article on the trade.
