You know what, I'll give Fletch some credit. He's done a good job of helping this board return to it's glory days. Clown, 2real, Jmatch, MJL... It's been a while since the whole crew was back together

some players can be really how one season and suck the next so why can't a team
- 2Real

I think they had a great regular season, and a terrible week in the playoffs. Nothing more nothing less. It happens. They blew that lead in game one and never recovered.

Hot run over the course of 16-28 games > 82 games
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

After they blew they lead in game one, they were shell shocked. It's brutal having a season like they had and getting swept in the first round.

Good trade. I’m happy about it. Not going to read much today because the whiners are raining on my parade. Way to go Fletch! Smart.
- NC Flyers Fan

Smart!

Smart until you read the whiny comments that clearly state that we’re taking back all 5.5 million of Niskanen’s deal and we keep 30% of Radko Gudas’ deal.

This is a deal the freakin capitals needed. Not only did we willing do so, we bent over, pulled up our own dress and told them “I’m ready and willing.

A smart GM tells Washington to take MacDonald or kick rocks. We didn’t need this, the Caps did.

And a smart GM wouldn't accept that deal...it always amazes me when fans think that all other teams will willingly take their team's trash and are shocked when it doesnt happen

I actually feel like the Flyers needed to add if not retain the money. It was probably add a pick or keep some money.

We are getting the better player.

And without moving significant picks or prospects.

I have verified my thoughts on this being a bad trade, the comment section on NBC Sports Philly is highly in favor of the trade. MJL, you are in agreement with those folks, you lose.

I do find the timing of this move a little odd for the Flyers. Why take on salary to acquire a stop gap player on June 14th, before free agency even starts? What if they could've used that cap space to get an impact player that would potentially be a bigger part of the future. From a timing standpoint, it's a great deal to get done for the Caps.
I can see the logic of arguements to pull the trigger on it now, but it's just a little frustrating is all. I am really hoping that at least one impact move is made this off season. Obviously there's still plenty of time, but this type of move just feels a little premature for a team that would be targeting bigger fish

I think the timing makes sense if they intend to keep their pick or even move back to select Broberg or Seider at the draft.

Do you think the Flyers are going to wait until July 1 to formulate their off season game plan? They know who the free agents are and they know who they want to target. What bigger fish? I'm sure Fletcher has talked to a lot of teams about potential trades and knows the landscape.

Still plenty of time to move money around

I won't be shocked if they move money out. Cough Jake cough.

Arizona has trouble scoring and wonder if any deal is there to be made with them....

This is where numbers have to be taken into context. I'm not sure how you can watch Gudas play and state that he drives play. He doesn't. Never has. What he does is take a lot of shots. That combined with the situations he plays in, elevates the numbers when he is on the ice. I don't see Washington re-signing him to a handsome contract, depending on what the definition of that is. He's a solid 4/5 defenseman in this league. Nothing more. Saying he drives play is the very definition of over-rating Gudas.
- MJL

Flyers improved in shot quantity and shot quality when he was on the ice. It's not really debatable.

Nobody is saying he's Paul Coffee or a puck-mover.

Play-driving just refers to shot-share.

Probably had his eye on Nisk for a little while now. I'm sure he had input from the coaches and staff. My feeling is, he needed a stabilizing force in the top 4 to see exactly what he has in everyone over the next couple seasons, especially after the disaster from Provy & Ghost. Not to mention Travis and Phil getting their feet under them a little more.

If he can do that, play solid and chip in 25-30 points, consider it a win. I think he's capable, much more so than Gudas, who is one late hit away from sitting for 20 games. Fletcher didn't lose high end assets. And although he did overpay in the salary department, it is for but 2 more seasons only - not a drag in the years to come. Hopeful he uses the same playbook for the center on his wish list.

Idk I have a hard time seeing Jake moved. Mainly because we aren’t winning a trade that would help us this season imo. He’s too offensively important to our team. Unless we actually are in on Panarin or Duchene.

No that's not what play driving refers to. Play driving is a lot more than just team shot share when a player is on the ice. The words are self descriptive. Being a play driver means that as a player you actually drive play. You create and are the main cog in positive play for your team. You're the reason why your team has a better shot share. Gudas is not that player. Never has been. By definition if you're not a puck mover as a defenseman, you couldn't possibly be a play driver.

Giroux and Voracek are play drivers on the Flyers.

What do you think the AAV will be on their top D, who still need to get inked. Prov and San????? Both look like studs, and Ghost's contract is a bargain. Should be a great top 4 going into this season with Nisk playing an easier role than he was used too.
