So blow off a year of cap advantage?
Lots of cap space & don’t have to use all of it. - Nighthawk
What do you plan on doing with it now? Sign Karlsson and Panarin. Two more players you have to protect then. |

Straight up keep the cap space and protection spaces for the expansion draft to "help" teams out. - manvanfan
We'd be losing 10.5 million in salary and 2 roster players. You can't fill every hole on the roster after with entry level deals, you won't hit the floor. |

If you draft properly every year or so you should have a player that will get a raise like EP, BH, BB are getting. Pretty soon you won't have enough room anyways. |

OK, so how does that help reach the floor for 2019-2020? I don't proper team building 101, I just want to see what her plan is.
Also, there's also not a problem with signing free agents or making trades to build a team. Winners do it all the time. |

As I said save the cap space to "help" teams out for the expansion draft. I'm guessing that would require trading to be done.
There's a time to do it and right now I would say that's not the time. No matter what the roster currently looks like it's pretty full. Keeps assets and cap space for the chance that at the TDL you can use it to improve the team if need be.
Honestly do you want JB handing out contracts anyways? |

The expansion draft is 2 years away. We need to reach the floor this season if we trade away 10.5 million in salary.
Maybe she chases a big fish, maybe she re-signs Edler to a 2 year deal and offer sheets someone or signs lower profile UFA's.
She made the trade, so i asked the plan? |

Carols trade is actually winning now in "fair trade for both sides" |

Ok so why not get on helping now?
I see no point on letting it slide & miss out on any opportunity cuz of just shoving the cap savings under the mattress. |

So if Calgary wants to get rid of Neal, would we not rather have Neal than Lucic? I'd take the risk on the extra year with him. What would it take to make that work? |

Bath salt time!!!
Marky Virtanen 10th for Matthew Tkachuk and Neal they can keep all picks if they dont like it offer sheet 10.4 mil. Ues id rather have him then marner. People over look the tavares davtor for marner too much. Obviously a killer player but give me tkachuk in the playoffs.
Sign Karlson
Snag a 2nd from florida to get reimer and buy him out after next year if hes brutal.
I know i know gm of the year |

I was just responding to the notion that trading Jake to a team who had “better leaders” would set him up for success. I think that notion is preposterous. Also, I am not suggesting there is a problem with Jake, that’s just the narrative. I’m not interested in trading Jake, or upgrading the D through the trade market because I realize how much that will cost the Canucks. Unless Benning can pull off an Ehrhoff for White type deal I say just stay the course. Take small steps every year. - 1970vintage
Cool, I was just curious, I hear quite a lot mocking over the leadership thing and also about Virtanen needing mentoring, I was just curious if there was a definitive thought on what Jake needs mentoring in.
I am in agreement with your thoughts on trading Jake and the overall cost to the team, thanks for responding.
BTW, I’m really happy and hope this post doesn’t make anyone angry.. |
