Marner was the best player on the Leafs last year. Sorry Ek, if Skinner is worth 9 million a year, Marner is worth 11 per all day long. He may not be top 3....but he’s easily in the top 10....and he needs a new contract now....not 3 years ago, so today’s market prices do matter. If teams offer sheet him, which I can’t see the player wanting to sign it, the Leafs would match. Marner won’t be going anywhere. 7 years....75 million.

To be fair to his bad math. It is 18.2M for the purposes of calculating the AVV for offer sheet compensation.

Offer sheet compensation is based on dividing the total contract value by 5 years if the term is 5 years or more. So in this case it would be 7 x 13M / 5 = 18.2 AAV for COMPENSATION purposes. It would still be 13M against the cap.

This means that to get to 4x first round picks, on a 7 year offer sheet, the value per year is only just over 7.5M.

7.55M x 7 Years = 52.8 M
52.8M / 5 Years = 10.57 AAV
10.57 AAV = 4 1st round pick compensation for 7.55 x 7 contract.
