GMJR just said JJ was NOT in the Minnesota deal as reported. Said JJ or Maatta was going to clear cap space to get compliant. And now I'm sad because it sounds like JJ is staying.
Also he doesn't see any players being in decline yet (Hornqvist). |

Well, let's hope he's not done and Johnson heads out. I mean, Riikola has a lot of work to fix his game, but he still fits the mold of the type of dman the Pens need, so I'd rather have him than JJ. - Rinosaur
If Johnson is dealt without taking worse back, this will be a good offseason. |

If JJ isn't traded, my next hope is Riikola replacing him during the year. After that it's the trade deadline. |

Except in the defense - Guile
I hated the Gudbranson deal, but he surprised me. He's not the worst skater in the world and he played pretty well after the first couple of games. Other than that, I'm encouraged he tried to move JJ and followed through with moving Ollie. It's not like he hasn't tried to get JJ out of here.....it could still happen. |

Also in Letang/ Malkin said he was never shopping them, but you never know if another team would make an offer he'd think about.
Said he is no longer actively shopping Kessel but is willing to entertain offers. |

Some tidbits I found interesting from the GMJR's interview on 93.7
- He especially liked Kahun being a +10 on a poor Blackhawks team. (Kind of scary - was this a shrewd move or is he really making deals based on plus/minus?)
- Kessel submits a new 8 team list every year on June 15th. (I wonder if he has added/changed any teams that may open up a potential trade?)
- Still won't commit or take a firm stance on not trading 71/58
- He identified either Maatta or Johnson to be traded to open up cap space (sounds like we have our answer ) |

I'm disgusted with this. I'm not watching every game this year again if JJ is in the lineup.

Yes. You only reported JJ/Rask was discussed, not that it was official, but everyone ran with it.
My interpretation of the interview was moving JJ was discussed, but they were ok keeping him and moving Maatta. Who knows though.
This stinks, but it's a long way until the playoffs for them to change their mind and all they'd need is a new #6 defenseman. |

The advanced stats backed that up to though: the Hawks had the better of play when Kahun was on the ice, and didn't when he wasn't. |

I'll puke if we're watching JJ and Guddy in the 3rd pairing. I don't see how they make that work. |

Can’t really get much worse than one of the worst dman in the league. |

JR could have packaged JJ with Maatta and grabbed Seabrook for "veteran leadership" |

So in about a month GMJR went from wanting and aggressively seeking big changes, to being happy with his team and just needing to send off a dman for cap relief?
I dont buy that crap for a second. |

I wouldn't either although the roster looks pretty full with Kahun taking the open starting forward spot, 8 defensemen, and little cap space. Still think there's a trade. Maybe Schultz is moved and another RHD brought in. Maybe Rust goes in a similar move to Maatta to create a little room. Maybe they do dump other defenseman. Bet they do something. |

Yah, that Matt Vensel was just saying that GMJR is open to a Phil trade, but doesnt find it necessary, but he is still active on the trade market. I would assume Rust is a prime candidate given he still has value and Kahun plays RW well. |
