I'm also ready to thank Schultz for his contributions and move on. Maybe he does it again in a contract year, but he's gone a little backwards since his breakout year instead of building on it.
- Tojo.

Rutherford made comments yesterday on DKs site that he is happy with the defense and doesnt feel the need to make another move. Said he can see pettersson moving up as time goes on and his game grows. Terrifying crap to read.

Generally agree with you here. Though... Schultz @ $5M and no assets lost vs. Trouba at $8M with premium assets traded away... is a different story.

If WPG is interested in a straight up swap of Schultz for Trouba (maybe thats what you meant to begin with) I could get on board.

- YouMeAndDupuis9

If Schultz still had term left my calculous might be different but Schultz’s extension isn’t going to come in that far behind Trouba’s, he’s older, and significantly worse even though he’s solid in his own right. I’m definitely willing to part with some assets to make that upgrade because I think the difference in cap hit will be very justifiable.

As time goes on? Does that mean he sees Johnson as a second pairing guy right now? (frank). He made a good trade the other day but he’s still the same (frank)ing dude...

Interesting. IIRC that's the verbiage he used when we first traded for McCann. Maybe he feels neither McCann or Bjug are "shutdown" centers....which means we could back to the everlasting quest for a 3C....

- YouMeAndDupuis9

Which is silly because the Bjugstand-Simon combo actually functioned as a great shut down line. I guess they weren’t gritty enough...

I sort of read that differently. He said he's open to dealing multiple dmen. I think he was being coy. Here's that part of the article....

Rutherford sent Olli Maatta to Chicago for versatile, but smallish, forward Dominik Kahun and a fifth-round draft choice Saturday night. That began to break up the logjam on the blue line, but it’s not out of the question that he’ll move another – Jack Johnson remains a leading candidate – to open additional salary-cap space.

“You can never really totally answer that question (about trading multiple defensemen), because you don’t know what ideas other teams might have,” he said.

What? Thats the first I head of him saying that this offseason, besides in the day or so after the sweep finished that is...the same time he was making stupid comments about Genos future. Then we hear he's actively trying to package JJ with Phil a few weeks ago and I get the hope he recognizes how terrible JJ is.

This is maddening to me. JJ better not be on the opening night f'n roster and Olli gone.

I saw - "No, I don't think we have to. I would suspect as we go along here that Pettersson will continue to move up in the lineup... But we can start the season this way, sure, and we're in a better spot than when we started the season last year."

Well to be fair he did miss almost 5 months last season with a knee injury that took him out only a few weeks into the season. He also was very important when Letang went down in 2017 while paired with Cole. He played top D mins and caliber.

Having said all of this if Schultz is moved out and someone like Subban or Trouba end up a Pen, well then happy trails Schultzy....but I think with the current D on contract right now, he's pretty important. Right handed that fits system well and produces.

- MattStrat

I think he'll bounce back some, but Schultz even the previous year wasn't near as good and that year is starting to feel like a career year in a contract year. We would definitely need to replace him, just saying I'm willing to look around. Schultz would be easy to move I they found a replacement.

They were fantastic. I was hoping they would get another look this season.

Simon-Bjugstad-Hornqvist functioned well as shutdown line. It was nice because it gave Hornqvist a role he was excelling in without using him in the top 6. The wings have to score a little more, but they gave up almost nothing with those guys on the ice.

I remember Horny getting so many quality chances when with Bjugs but just not able to buy one.

These comments are funny. As Vic eluded to, Trouba’s numbers per 60 are great - why that’s relevant is because he was on the third pair behind Myers until this past season but saw a fair amount of special teams. The majority of fans want Myers gone because of his brutal turnovers but they also know Trouba won’t stay

Schultz > Myers and it’s not close

Karlsson just got extended for 8 years

JR seems to be talking out of both sides of his mouth lately. I honestly believe he’s at a point where he really doesn’t know what he will or will not do.

After 8 months straight of RW bashing Johnson? How could anyone not know?

BTW RW tweeted yesterday that he’s never heard of Dominik Kahun. He played a good chunk with Toews and Strome and had a strong season in his limited role. Just a reminder that much like Tanner he doesn’t watch much actual hockey
