Yah, speculation is 11.45 same % of cap as doughty when he signed. .

I saw - "No, I don't think we have to. I would suspect as we go along here that Pettersson will continue to move up in the lineup... But we can start the season this way, sure, and we're in a better spot than when we started the season last year."
- burgh4life87

I'm holding on to the fact that JJ was scratched for the 1st game of the playoffs. Once we had 7 healthy regulars, JJ was the his 1st inclination to scratch. Also, JJ was apparently part of the Kessel deal with Minny. Those two instances give me some hope.

Anyway.... For those that are interested, Rutherford is going to be on "the fan" here shortly...93.7

Freidman "Erik Karlsson closing in on a deal with SJ. Will be eight years. Same percentage of cap as Doughty deal, it sounds like"

RW had a blog about cap %'s recently and I think its a great way to look at this stuff, I used cap % talking about Hags yesterday.

What was Doughty's cap % when he signed?...sure I could go do some research but Im not going to...

Karlsson deal done. Uh oh
- burgh4life87

Have to worry about injuries, but man were they dominant rolling EK and Burns on different pairings. Would love to see the Pens find a way to do that.

Ok, you guys convinced me, let's get Trouba. Paired with Pettersson we would probably get that ice tilting effect Letang gives us, and that could help Malkin an if he's still here Kessel a ton.

But how do we get him? If they can just get Myers back, I don't think they need Schultz, though we an use him to recoup assets. What else does Winnipeg need besides cap space?

JR seems to be talking out of both sides of his mouth lately. I honestly believe he’s at a point where he really doesn’t know what he will or will not do.
- Rinosaur

I think not being able to trade Kessel through him for a loop and he's trying to figure out how to work around it.

I have no idea if trading Maatta changes that or not. I hope not! But at least Rutherford doesn't seem married to him anymore. He has been willing to admit most of his mistakes and address them quickly.

With how GMJR talks, him on live radio should be revealing, thanks for the tip.

I agree with this.

I feel like his only plan was to trade Kessel this offseason... once that fell through he's just looking to make deals. I could be wrong but I don't get the sense he has an end goal or an identity in mind.

He's talking about lacking leadership after signing JJ, Matt Cullen, and trading for Gudbranson...all of whom he praised their leadership and character last year. Now he's still saying leadership is an issue this year?

He got two capable 3rd line centers last season but is talking about needing a shutdown center?

He says its probably Kessel will be back next season but none of us feel that will be the case.

He's commented 50 times about the importance of keeping this years 1st round draft pick... I have my doubts we make a selection friday night.

How about Letang's... 7.5 for a true #1. Our 1st pairing will likely cost the same as Karlsson.

We just keep hearing conflicting reports on how he feels about different areas of the team. He could also be having a difficult time moving the players he wants to move, aside from Kessel that is.

That contract looks great now, but it's a contract that was big at the time when he signed. It has aged well.

The fact that we got Dumoulin signed for his prime years, after back to back Cups, at such a favorable contract was such a huge win for the Pens.

I think I read somewhere on a Vancouver website that he was looking to get a contract closer in the 6 million range.
- 123Kid

Yeah. It won't shock me. This is such a thin market. Next year will be different though with a glut of quality UFA dmen, so luckily if Schultz is still in the Pens' plans I don't think he'll be able to demand that much more money.

That is some seriously good value. On another note, the sharks will now have 26+ mill tied into 3 defenders. That is more than the entire pens D.

Things will get very ugly if the cap only winds up going to like $80M or $81M

I understand what your saying but if you look at his most recent deals.... In - Bjug, McCann, Kahun. Out - Brass, Maatta.

He also wanted to bring Zucker here....another player that can skate well. I think he's focusing on the right things...youth and speed.

Well, let's hope he's not done and Johnson heads out. I mean, Riikola has a lot of work to fix his game, but he still fits the mold of the type of dman the Pens need, so I'd rather have him than JJ.
