I’m getting tired of only looking forward to the draft. I feel that at this point Benning should be a lot further along and we should be looking forward to a playoff spot not the draft. - thundachunk
Yes.
That’s been a standard topic in here for about oh four years now. |

As long as our #1 and #2 D are Tanev and Edler,,,, there will be too many injuries on the blue line to make that next step.

Fair enough. I'm still in the "win as much as possible" camp, so I would try to ice the best possible lineups on the way to getting good.
That being said, we may also be thinking differently in terms of timeframes. My vision is to re-sign these guys on one or two-year deals. Then, assuming no massive upgrades through trade or free agency that make them expendable, if they get outplayed at camp like Sam Gagner did last year, it's sayonara time.
If Edler does leave, I think it's more likely that Hutton sticks around. And truthfully, I'd be inclined to keep Granlund—cheap and versatile. He's fine in the proper role. - Carol Schram
Why not sign Benn at 2 mil instead of Hutton at 2.8 or 4.5 Mil (depending on the arbitrator) ?
There is still lots of time for trades and signings. There are more than a few Cap struck teams that should be looking to shed better players that the three we are discussing.
Again this is only my opinion right or wrong. I think we have seen enough of those 3 and it is time for something different.

I disagree . I look at it as fence sitting. Either build a good team that will make the playoffs or build a bad team where you will get a good draft pick ( top 5).
That is my opinion only . Having mediocre players with no trade value only slows the process.
- VANTEL
The latter sounds a lot like the Edmonton model.
Other teams' fresh trash is not necessarily better than your own stale trash. If they're the best option available for their position, re-sign them and keep looking for ways to improve upon them. If they're not, trade for or sign the better replacement.
Having said that, I'm not confident in this management team's ability to identify and secure pro-level solutions. |

You are missing my point. I am not throwing out Goldobin and taking back Dahlen.
I have suggested Offer Sheets , Taking good players from other teams that are Cap heavy. Trades like acquiring Zucker. Go after better players we have the cap space and we have the roster openings.

I'm hoping with Edler moving on, Boeser's power play goals will skyrocket.

Sorry, I thought the suggestion was not to re-sign any of Granlund, Hutton, Goldobin, etc. because they are not good enough and have no market value for other teams to trade for.
I say sign your RFA's AND continue to look for better options using every option available to you. Once you have a suitable replacement, trade them or waive them. If they make it through to Utica then it will be nice having the depth for injury replacement. |

Zaitsev is the answer. - As_I_See_It
That is true if the question is: name a defenseman that Benning will not be pursuing this off season. |

Shrewd trade Carol well done.
On Edler if he left i’d be surprised since i believe he is genuine & luv’s Vancouver. A fair deal will get done to satisfy both parties.
On the cap space you added it either goes to big signing eg Panarin or an anchor contract plus a RHD possibly a Miller. Regardless the cap will have more left for upcoming years.
In order at 16 Newhook Soderstrom Seider Kaliyev |

The trick is to make them 3rd & 4th D. Hughes will help out there but who else will help him? Tanev/Edler got it by acclimation since we drafted crap or had no top picks to fill the cupboard. |

Who cares about EK, we can still get Panarin and hopefully 1 of Gardiner or Myers. |

No Sh!t. I’d rather extend Louis contract two years then hand out $11.5MM to EK |

This is why a sh!t team like us should remain the (frank) on the UFA market sidelines. The riches of talent that’ll be available to poach as these other teams dig themselves deeper and deeper into cap hell will be perfectly timed for our build if we’re patient enough. |

I was just looking at the compensation package to acquire Meier. First second and a third. The kid is 22 years old
