I agree, lousy return for Trouba. From the Jets point of view they didn't allow any team to negotiate a deal or extention with Trouba - probably because this is an area of ass pain for the Jets - players publicly wanting out of Winnipeg. This makes him a one year rental and they got a late round first and a pylon - fairly typical for a rental.

I admit, the jets hands were tied, they didnt have much choice, but damn.
Trouba is a great dman

Skinner deal - overpayment
EK deal - overpayment
Cap may be under 83m
Not looking good for leafs and marner.

But we'll see.

More important question is, can the Raps re-sign the biggest superstar Toronto has ever had in the city?

From what I read, Team cant talk to him until July 1?

So jets had their hands tied it would seem. Take the best offer from a team that doesnt know if they can sign him or not

Now he is an RFA, so say they can sign him for 1 season. Then they can just flip him again. So reduces the risk..assuming he signs now

it's actually a good return for wpg.
a 2nd line young rhd (with a good contract and quite a bit of upside) plus a 20nd ovr in this year's draft (and not 2020 or 2021) for a topline d that the whole league knew wasnt going to stay and wpg couldnt afford to keep.

nyr kept future years picks - i really expect an offersheet from them - let's hope it's mcavoy or tkachuck

maybe leafs can trade kadri or nylander to nyr (for kreider ? or a bigger deal including georgiev).

adding trouba and kaakko and maybe another young rfa via offersheet (point or mcavoy or marner or tkachuck) makes them a lot better al of a sudden. i like those types of bold rebuilds, nyr did really well with deadline deals for picks imo.

So trade the two better players? And yet you have the nerve to criticize Dubas about anything?

He carries a 10.2 (c) classification: a player emerging from entry-level status with less than three years of pro experience.

Pfft. Florida tried drafting Ovechkin in 2003. Like 5 times.

Talk about Chiarelli living off someone elses work

NYR's GM Jeff Gorton was Boston's GM for 4 months in 2006. He oversaw the draft where they got Lucic, Marchand, Kessel. He traded Andrew Raycroft for Tuukka Rask. He signed Zdeno Chara. Then they hired Peter Chiarelli to be the GM, and he fired Gorton.

Agree on EK and Skinner, doubt the cap is under $83 million even though perennial idiot Dreger reports it. Doubt that Marner will be a huge issue. He's got at least two sets of maple leaf pyjamas. I see a 5 or 6 year deal at about $10. Still means that some salary shuffling will take place. Brown, Zaitsev, Marleau and Kadri are the guys likely to be gone in my opinion. On the cap, a typical increase after a good year would be about $5 million brings it to $84.5, and Betman's favorite team (he likes the adult play lands in the suburbs) Vegas is at $83.1 Million They have Clarkson who at $5.5 Million will be vacationing on Robidas Island this year. But Gary not going to screw LV.

If the NYR sign Trouba, thats a great deal.
But i looks like some risk in not talking to him before.

So he could walk. But worth a shot since its not even thier own 1st

- senstroll

It’s a risk forsure. They already know he doesn’t want to play in Canada.

It always seems like a lot of players want to play in nyc. Probably a good bet that signs there.

Bruins will keep McAvoy. I would think he will be the highest cap hit on the team after July, maybe $8 to $9 million. Probably worth it if he stays healthy.

I heard Sunday while up at a cottage shin dig up on Stoney I was at from some random old guy named Darren who said he use to partial scout for Carolina. He said that he heard from a few he keeps in touch with that Kapanen is there target and want big time. Just waiting for Toronto to clear space. Didn't say for who and don't know if true, just repeating.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see him go bridge and then seek monstrous money after 2 or 3 years. I read as much somewhere and it makes sense. It’s still hard to believe he’s only 21.

Kapanen is younger and faster, Kadri is cheaper and more productive.

They definitely need help on defense and if it costs Nylander and Johnsson, so be it.

- JohnFergusonJr

It isn't just defense. It is help with the cap.

Getting rid of Zaitsev and Marleau is the biggest problem. They are either going to give up good assets, or take back bad money. That is what at least 2 of Kadri/Nylander/Kapanen/Johnsson are gone.
