This is really a shame for the city and the fans. But it also points out that the team didn't necessarily do their homework when they drafted Trouba in the first place.

There was from day one a very at arms length feeling. He really wasn't going to embrace being a Jet. In days gone by, he would have bitten his tongue and ridden it out to a point and then been traded. In recent years it seems more and more that the teams think that they can not so much mold as force players to their culture and players, in some cases, have no interest in being molded.

I don't know that New York is where Trouba really wants to be. As a Flyer fan, I don't want him there. But he is no longer the Jets problem.

The return, not great. Not great at all. But, it is better than nothing.

I agree mostly with Benny on this. I'm not ecstatic about the trade but I am OK with it.

Bottom line is we got the use of Jacob for almost the full term of his entry and RFA status and mostly at salaries that were below his worth. Then we got a decent first round pick back again. Trouba never wanted to be in Winnipeg for the getgo but somehow Chevy managed to stretch Trouba out as long as he possibly could. Chevy certainly wasn't played.

NYC was one of the few options for Trouba without a gamble that he wouldn't sign. Returns elsewhere would have been minimal because it would have been a one-year rental. My only qualm is that even a 5 month rental for a top player tends to get a first, a prospect, and maybe a fourth liner. I guess the Jets value Pionk as more valuable than those last two pieces

The move had to be made now in order to afford RFA's like Laine, Copp, Connor, and possibly UFA Myers. As I said , I'm not thrilled, but am OK with it. Let's look back on it in 2-3 years. I also must say that I was not as big a Trouba fan as others on here. He made mistakes virtually every game and it was Morrissey constantly saving him.

At least the upcoming draft will be more exciting.

Interesting Pionck is undrafted and signed as a college tryout.

We don’t know much about this kid yet but looks like he has clawed his way into the league and wasn’t a ranked draft pick. Typically these kind of guys have to work their @$$’s off and respond to the challenge. Case in point, Vanvleet the Raptors.

Trying to find positives. Certainly expected a bit more.

Actually, I think it turned out exactly as almost everyone expected - Trouba leaving for an underwhelming return.

I like a lot of people am perplexed by this trade. On paper it seems the Jets gave him away for Pionk. Does anyone know what type of player the Jets are getting in him?

No Jets fan here so maybe more objective. This is not a bad deal. First round pick and a somewhat established defencemen for a guy who has been a pain his whole career. Opens up cap space to sign existing deals. Trouba is definitely overvalued in Wpg.

Exactly. I never thought trouba was as great as the hype. Saw pionk play last year and the guy is a good al around defenseman. I think the jets made out fine.

You'll miss him as much as the Flames missed Dion Phaneuf. Which is to say you really won't.

I knew he was Trouba when he walked in.

But shame on C for putting him in a bargain bin.

Yeah I’m that saddened by this...

Excellent write up by Tessier I’d like to add.

Its a bad trade currently but lets see what Trouba signs for if he does an extension w/NYR. Also lets see who Jets pick at #20 and if its Moritz Seider RHD could be a steal, most trades get judged in a few years unless Trouba explodes and becomes a #1 dman which he's hasnt shown yet.

1) Maybe we Jets fans thought more highly of Trouba’s worth than the rest of the league did ?
2) Maybe this was the best offer that Chevy got, so he took it?
3) Maybe Pionk becomes the puck moving, fast skating defenceman that is the trend in the NHL these days ?
4) Maybe we make a solid pick with #20 ?

Yea agree there are a lot of variables at play here. Maybe a lot going on behind the scenes that we don't know about.
New York city may not be the best place for Jacob Trouba either.
Not a huge fan of deal, but looking forward to draft - should get a decent player. My big hope at present is we can now, with additional cap space, re-sign Myers for four years and then the Trouba essentially for Pionk, Myers and a 1st won't look so bad.
Hayes didn't pan out, but who knew?

As a Sabres fan... I sympasize with your fan base on having to sell off a player for less than market value because the dirty laundry got aired and team was low-balled.

Also hurt that Trouba only wanted to sign an extension with NYR. Supposedly Buffalo offered quite a bit more than that but Trouba had no interest here. You guys also dodged a bullet in that Trouba is a fine dman in the NHL but he is NOT a top 10 or top 15 Dman who deserves north of 7M AAV.

That's rich coming from a TOR fan... LOL. Spend $35M on 3 players and still can't win a playoff series in almost 15 years.

Pionk is going to be a solid 3/4 Dman for the Jets. Get him signed, now! You get your 20th overall pick back. You got Hayes; it didn't work; suck it up; St. Louis Blues played some inspired hockey and you just happened to be in their path! Trouba is now the Rangers' headache. I am sure he and his agent will bend over backwards to low ball the Rangers and accept whatever they get. If not the Rangers, some teams will soon be overpaying Trouba; my bet is the Rangers, though!
- temmer29

This. Although my feel is closer to a 4 Dman. And heaven forbid Niku and Poolman get the playing time they deserve now that this fiasco is over.

I can't count the amount of bad decisions this kid has made over the past few years in his own zone, and under pressure. And his time on the PP? Kid is no Buff on the PP, I'll tell you that.

I'm so sick and tired of Trouba and his damned drama over the past three seasons. Good riddance, don't let the door hit your a$$ on the way out.

I have no clue why people are so upset here
Trouba never wanted to be here.
His agent didn't want him here.
His family didn't want him here.
Half the fanbase didn't want him here.
He is over-rated imo.
He will be overpaid.
Let the Rangers deal with him...
I think the Jets got fair value considering the situation.
It is pretty dumb to sit there and spout adnauseum about how Chevy should have traded him a while ago because then those same people would be complaining we should have tried harder to keep him if he turned out to be as good as HE thinks he is.
Move on...
I think Chevy has done a very good job in Winnipeg.
I think Jets fans should be more concerned with what is wrong in the dressing room...and maybe this trade helps address that.
Personally I would love Chevy back in Chicago...if you can throw in Tanev as well,I would appreciate it.

With Myers likely to go, what does the d pairings look like on paper?
- MrPerfect316

I kid, I kid.....If you need a mid-20's dman to replace him, Ceci is available, just saying....PLEASE take him

Leafs never spend 35 million on 3 players.

Leafs will be far better than Winnipeg next year.
