Damn....
Multiple teams I’ve spoken to are very concerned about this cap forecast. Many fear that when the NHL and NHLPA settle on an upper limit this week, it will be LESS than $82M for next season, or an increase of only slightly more than $2M. - mrpaulish
Good.
Puts even MORE pressure and trouble on the CAP strapped teams like the Jets and Leafs. If it is lower, Hawks can sniff out some desperate GMs for a deal or two.
Our cap space....for this year, at least, is not in too bad a shape... |

I think technically any European/American born player that did not start his development in Major Junior can play in the AHL. |

The shooting was horrible and asked in a non flippant way you have a discussion point.
Unfortunately nowhere is safe from the crazy element of society. And by comparison the Blackhawks attracted a crowd about the same size on three different occasions and unless I hadn't heard there were no issues like what we saw here yesterday. - paulr
Last bolded part 1st, you are correct, no issues with any of the 3 CUP celebrations.
As for the 1st bolded part Paul, sadly this is very true. My daughters live in what is considered to be one of the best parts of Chicago and 2 nights ago, a shooting took place a few blocks away on a street lined with tons of restaurants (albeit, it did take place about 3:30am).
Then yesterday on the news, an assault took place in broad daylight at one of the forest preserve areas in the NW burbs. The lunacy with guns is beyond me and evidently, it is the way just about everything gets "settled" these days across this country. |

Turcotte is committed for at least one year in NCAA.
Cozens, Dach and Byram would either have to play WHL or NHL.
That's correct, right? Or am I making things up? - Tyler Cameron
turcotte is going to the univ of wisconsin..
i think cozens and dach could play this year not sure of byram

I'm pretty sure Brady Tkachuk was "committed" to college as well.
Take those commitments with a grain of salt. Friday, training camp, agents and GMs can change all those "commitments" rather quickly |

Would the 43rd pick 2019 draft and Beaudin or Boqvist (either one) been a better deal for the Jets? - Lido_Shuffle
It's a fair point but I doubt they would have dangled Boqvist in that discussion. Perhaps Beaudin but at that point it just depends on preference in the Winnipeg Front Office. I used the original pick the Hawks were projected to get because they could have moved up eight spots from their own pick they got back and had their choice of Defensemen that we have in return as well.
Ohh well. Hell of a trade for the Rangers that's for sure. We'll see how we feel about that once his contract comes in though lol

Gotta wonder if the Hawks missed out on the Trouba deal...not because the money or the price to pay (which seems like pennies for what he's worth basically a few lottery tickets) but because we moved up in the draft from 12 to 3. I don't think ANYONE would have been against trading the #12 pick and one or two of the many D-men we have to Winnipeg for Trouba to lock that up for the foreseeable future. As awesome as it is to have the #3 pick and exciting that we could get another superstar player in the next few years but I think we all agree we need help NOW and while getting an impact player in a year or two would be awesome doesn't help this aging core at all
Just food for thought - Savetheembers33
How much more was anybody going to pay for Trouba over and above what the Rangers paid?
Trouba will be a UFA after this coming season and almost for sure will not sign any new contract until July 1 2020. Why would he when he sees what top defenceman are getting on the open market now? If Stan offered the Jets Joki and a draft pick for Trouba and he walked after one season the fans would be all over him.
Frankly, I think Trouba ( and his agent) places a higher value on himself than what his on ice performance actually indicates. He's very good, not great. Let somebody else like Detroit or LA pay him the big coin, Chicago can develop from within their large collection of drafted defenceman. |

A lower cap than expected this year probably means a lower cap next year - when the Hawks WILL need it for resigning AdB and Strome (and others).
This will affect what they can do this year, too.
And what assumptions does the new projection include concerning the escalator - which much be approved by the players - considering that Fehr and several players (including Toews) have mentioned that the major issue in the next CBA negotiations would be some kind of modification of the escrow system. The escalator is a major factor in the size of the escrow every year. |

Pionk doesn't seem to have been a "give-away" by the Rags - he was playing top-4 minutes with them. |

Outside of Hughes and Kakko, Byram is the only player that they have deemed NHL ready and a player that can make an impact right away. |

Right, because Zadina was loaned originally to the CHL, he was deemed an import, so he was eligible for the AHL. Exactly like Henri Jokiharju.
With the infusion of youth within the league, the CHL rules will need to be changed. I know the CHL will not be happy, but the system has to evolve with the game. |

Well thats my point. The Rangers gave the Jets a roster player and the 20th pick in the draft in return for one guaranteed year of Trouba.
And the other thing about Pionk is that he is from the Duluth area - can't get too much closer to Winnipeg from there so he probably won't be female doging about having to play in some Canadian outpost. |

However much we will complain about Stan's pick on Friday nite (no matter whom he picks), he will have a better draft and summer than Kekalainen will have.
The Jackets have only 2 picks in the draft - 3rd round and 7th round - they will certainly lose Bob the Goalie, and probably Panarin, Duchene, and Dzingel - with a not-very-good UFA class to spend all of the resulting cap space on.
Good thing they won a round in April.... |

1) Winnipeg may not have traded him to a Western conference team.
2) Winnipeg did not let interested teams talk to the player or his agent in advance of the trade.
3) He is an RFA. So there is a lot of uncertainty.
4) If the Hawks want him and he wants to play for the Hawks they can still sign him to an offer sheet. If they sign him at less than 8.5 mil they give up a 1st, 2nd, 3rd in the 2020 draft. A reasonable price. I do not think he is worth more than $8.5 mil for 7 years.
We would all agree it would be great for the Hawks to improve their personnel on D this summer. |

From the outside - with no inside knowledge - I don't see any changes coming - except for some kind of modification of the escrow issue.
Neither side will move on the 50% split - owners won't give the players more, PA won't accept less - and I haven't read anything calling for a change in the hard cap.

Another question- have this strange Finn vibe after acquiring Maata and having Joki and that goalie in our system. Also talk of getting Lee, not a Finn but a LW. Which leads to Kaako.
Any idea what it would take to get NY’s pick? Our 3rd overall, a 4th and Saad do it?

I don't see Stan spending any assets on trading up.
What I could possibly see him doing is announcing his 3rd overall is available for the right price - "come on down boys and give me your best offer. And make it real good."

Same with Jokiharju but the difference between Jokiharju and Bowen/Cozend/Dach is that Joki was technically "on loan" to his WHL team from his Euro team so it is loophole to get around the rule that a player drafted from a CHL team that is not 20 by 12/31 of the year is not eligible to play in the AHL. I suspect the same loophole was used for Zadina.
