The cap is killing the league, fairly soon half the teams will be in cap hell
something needs to change outside of the obvious. - gazza53
The cap isn't killing the league actually. It's as profitable as ever in its history. It's keeping teams in the league that otherwise couldn't survive or compete. You want a 6 team league again? What is the obvious you are referring to? |

Another question- have this strange Finn vibe after acquiring Maata and having Joki and that goalie in our system. Also talk of getting Lee, not a Finn but a LW. Which leads to Kaako.
Any idea what it would take to get NY’s pick? Our 3rd overall, a 4th and Saad do it? - Popsghostly
More like our 3rd, Saad, and Beaudin. It would take a king’s ransom as Kaako, wile not a sure bet, is a rare talent. |

Exactly right. As a Hawks fan it sux because we have a team that is willing to spend to the max and the Cap constrains our ability to assemble an all star team. But that is the purpose of the Cap - so the league doesn't become a handful of Harlem Globetrotter all star team and the rest a bunch of Washington General fodder teams.

Would CLB move Ryan Murray for say... a 3rd Rd Pick and Forsling?
They desperately need picks, Murray will be moved. Forsling give them a warm body with some upside to plug in on the blueline.
Of course the Hawks have too many Dman as it is but there is the potential to move Gus or Murphy. |

Totally disagree.
- The cap is a necessary evil to keep the competitive balance in the league.
- Teams in cap hell either mismanaged the cap or gambled that they could contend for a cup now and deal with cap issues later (ala the Hawks)
- It makes the TDL and summer much more interesting. |

Who is the best "cap dump" candidate for a cap-hell team that the Hawks could absorb that would ACTUALLY improve the team in some capacity for one year (ignoring the opportunity cost of using the $$$ on other players)?
My vote is Callahan as a bottom 6 F. I think he could do PK, good character guy and would give a bit more grit than they've had in the past. I think Marleau is redundant to team strengths (scoring goals). |

Yup.
Lots of teams in cap hell as bad as the Blackhawks ever were without the Cups though ♥️ |

Seems a bit steep for Braun but the Flyers have a nice farm system so can move picks without feeling too much of a hit. |

Damn that's a solid haul for the Sharks. That might kill the Hawks chances at Pavelski, but then again they've got like 16 guys signed and maybe like 10M now to fill out the roster. I would think that's what they want to do, but idk if necessarily that is the best thing to do. We've seen first hand what being top heavy and having no depth can do to a team.

I would SERIOUSLY consider moving Gus if the price being paid is going to be that high. Especially if the Hawks are looking at trading a forward like Saad for a Defensemen and signing a Forward in FA |

Pure cap dump isn't good.
I'm still hopeful that the Sharks are age-mindful and focus on Leblanc and Meier (both RFA's) and let Stan sign a 34 year old Pavelski to tip in Patrick Kanes PPG's, next April |

How much more was anybody going to pay for Trouba over and above what the Rangers paid?
Trouba will be a UFA after this coming season and almost for sure will not sign any new contract until July 1 2020. Why would he when he sees what top defenceman are getting on the open market now? If Stan offered the Jets Joki and a draft pick for Trouba and he walked after one season the fans would be all over him.
Frankly, I think Trouba ( and his agent) places a higher value on himself than what his on ice performance actually indicates. He's very good, not great. Let somebody else like Detroit or LA pay him the big coin, Chicago can develop from within their large collection of drafted defenceman. - RickJ
Trouba is a RFA

Not that it needs any more reassuring, but Craig Button was just on a local Chicago podcast and reiterated his love of Byram and that is who the Hawks should take at 3.
Otherwise he explored a trade scenario with LA of 3 for 5 and 22 but that obviously doesn’t seem likely. |

It is a bit steep, but they are late round picks. So it is more like a 3rd and a 4th.
Do you think Dmen that actually play D will have higher value than D that are subpar defensively and are above average offensively.
It should be interesting to see the trade value of Gus, our marginal NHL defensemen (Forsling, Koekkoek, Dahlstrom), and 2nd tier prospects (the lower level prospects than the 4 horseman). I imagine some of them will be moved.
Maybe after this signing period with silly dollars being thrown at defensemen Seabs contract will not seem so bad.

Well thats my point. The Rangers gave the Jets a roster player and the 20th pick in the draft in return for one guaranteed year of Trouba.
And the other thing about Pionk is that he is from the Duluth area - can't get too much closer to Winnipeg from there so he probably won't be female doging about having to play in some Canadian outpost. - RickJ
One nice thing for the Rangers, if he doesn't want to re-sign he will be a great rental trade chip that probably gets them back a fair chunk around the trade deadline, especially if the Rangers want to retain salary for sending him to a cap strapped contender. |

Or he can sign an offer sheet with another club this summer and the Rangers collect a few more draft picks.
