Comparing the NFL salary cap to the NHL salary cap and CBA are apples to oranges
There is no way that NHL players would be okay with non guaranteed deals - Stripes77
Oh I am aware. Eventually with this Structure the NHL is going to fall upon itself.
Salaries are skyrocketing at a pace that is outgrowing your cap. With the cap projections lower and lower Contracts are going to start looking worse and worse.
Soon you will see these contracts stopped in the players will cry collusion.
That’s what I think will happen eventually |

It's risky for sure
I still think the way to improve this roster is the 2nd line and the 2nd pairing - Stripes77
I think the risk player is going to be Yak.
Dk why just a gut feeling. |

Eh we are talking about a projection of $1 million lower than originally anticipated
The cap has grown every year since it's inception.
With Seattle and the new TV deal coming I don't see that changing anytime soon.
The GMs handing out these stupid contracts are the ones that will be out of jobs.
I don't think the current structure is awful. There needs to be some tweaks and I think when the new CBA comes out there will be some. |

scandella and bogo this year
or pk and pilut for the next 3 years
I will hang up and listen - homiedclown
How about Pilut and just a solid $4mil defensively responsible guy to play with Dahlin
Then we can use that other $5mil for another defenseman or towards a scoring winger |

I've been thinking that since the TDL, but I think both GMs would be too risk adverse to swap them 1-for-1 in case one of them breaks out. Both will probably be part of packages |

do you try to squeeze nickels in quarter slots?
I kid I kid but you are dead set against bringing in fringe all star players that cost money for the cap |

Erik Cernak who’s a very good young D for Tampa was drafted by LA with one of the Fasching picks.
Raw deal baby - OneKaneOneCup
Could of drafted Montour in 2014 as well with one of our 3 second rounders |

if this team can't compete in 3 years, why sign skinner
Bedlam - homiedclown
Even if they can...
Why take PK for 3years, when u can put that $$$ towards a player(s) that are in their prime & will be here longer
We aren’t at a point where we need to be bringing in highly paid 30+ year olds that can have a drop off at any minute
I’d think we’d have learned our lesson with
Okposo & Moulson... no? |

How do you know that we would not be a contender. Did anyone think that the Blues would win as of January 1?
Get good players and PK is a great player. sure he is declining but he is still MILES above anything we have other then Dahlin.... - hehateme
Why not target players who aren’t declining?
That just makes MUCH more sense to me
Especially when said declining player has a
$9mil Cap Hit

Of all the teams on this list, we’re pegging Buffalo as least likely to trade a first-rounder — mostly because the Sabres don’t hold a second-round pick this year as a result of last summer’s Jeff Skinner deal. (They don’t own a fifth-rounder, either.)
In addition to selecting seventh overall, Jason Botterill will also benefit from the 31st-overall pick he obtained from Cup-winning St. Louis — a silver lining from the Ryan O’Reilly trade that now has the GM feeling the heat.
Despite having the dubious distinction of owning the NHL’s longest active playoff drought, Botterill did not sound like a man scrambling for a quick fix when he spoke last month upon hiring culture-changing coach Ralph Krueger.
“We’re looking long term here,” Botterill told reporters. “We can understand a fan’s perspective, but it can’t impact our decisions, our vision of how our team needs to eventually look.”
In Jack Eichel and Rasmus Dahlin, the Sabres have cornerstones at key positions. Despite re-signing 40-goal sniper Jeff Skinner, the Sabres are more than one or two bodies away from contending in a loaded Atlantic Division.
This is an article on sportsnet regarding the 4 teams with multiple 1st round picks this year. |

a team just traded for a 7.5 million dollar second line center and won the cup
so there is that - homiedclown
Yeah...
and O’Reilly was a really good 2way center
Not the same as bringing in an offensive $9mil defenseman who’s declining & not good in his own end
There’s MUCH better options than PK |
