2 things -
When Botterill has talked about the future, he mentions a lot of names but Risto is not usually among them. Now it is possible that Krueger came and said "whoa, whoa whoa, I want to work with Risto and see what he can do." That would mean that Krueger has the ability to influence personnel decisions though.
The other thing is that if GMs hear he's not available, they probably want him more.
I still think he moves this summer - jcragcrumple
Did you know that once a year all the GM's meet in Boca and measure their Richards. The loser assumes the bill at Rachels. The commissioner is even in on it. |

Corey Perry being bought out by the Ducks.
If he comes cheap I’d take him for a year or two. - ImThatGuy
Same. He’s lucky to hit 20-25 goals but could be a Vanek like guy to have out there at this point. |

The Donskoi contract is going to be the next train wreck contract that is signed.

Dude is a bone head on the ice, not really off the ice that I can remember. Why would you not want a proven 30 goal scorer and center at a cap hit of 4.5 mil for the next 3 years?
I get it, he is a bit of a loose cannon but he can play... - hehateme
5 suspensions in 5 years. A repeat offender coming to Buffalo? How long before his next suspension, because if the league will suspend a Leaf player 5 times, they surely won't hesitate to suspend him quickly and often playing in Buffalo. |

Depending on the knee I would rather have him than Pomminville
Last season was awful and he was trying to come back from knee surgery
The year before he scored something like 48 points
I would take a 40 point player |

Michael Pachla: 2019 NHL Mock Draft--Picks 11-21 - Michael Pachla
"Florida is packed with forwards and is looking for capable defensemen yet I never hear Buffalo defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen or Panthers/Sabres as trade partners mentioned in the rumor mill."
Thanks for all the excellent blogs, Mike. From what I've learned here, Risto isn't what FL needs. They have plenty of offensively minded Dmen who leave much to be desired when actually playing defense, they need the reliable defender to balance it better. The price Botts (and fans here) would want for Risto wouldn't be anything FL was interested in trading. Huberdeau isn't going anywhere and Trocheck won't be moved, either. I agree with you that the Panthers will take a Dman with their pick, but I think they'll go with a bigger, more defensive upside choice. I wouldn't be surprised if they took Seider. He seems like a Tallon kind of player.
Come July 1, if (I say, I said) IF the Panthers sign Panarin, Hoffman may become available. Idk what it would take to get him on an expiring contract. He's UFA after this season and probably will want close to what Skinner just signed for on his next deal.
The player Botts (imo) should be interested in is Denis Malgin. He plays center, but seems lost in the shuffle in FL, can't crack their top six, but he's no fourth line grinder, either. He may do well in Buffalo's middle 6 with consistent ice time.

I agree. Risto in the right setting with the right coaching still has super high potential.
Look at Colton Parayko as a comparison. He was terrible on defense, soft, inconsistent on PP, then with a coaching change stud - lulags
6th coach is the one? We've been hoping the same thing for a long time.

Its not even half of what Crosby and Malkin were. Sheary in the top 6 is a problem. - Mentalorgasm5
Would only be to get his numbers up to move him at the deadline
Spreading scoring over 3 lines is the way to go now-a-days
That means you’ll have good players on “line3”
and a “just ok” guy on line 1 &/or 2
Sheary looked fine with Jack last year when together
And he looked fine when he was top6 in Pitt
It’s not 1975 anymore fellas |
