Enough to understand why the Ducks are buying back his contract, listen the guy is almost a legend out there but they still feel they have to part ways with him.
Why is that? ... the game is now too fast for him.

Why do people get enamored with "big names" all the time? ... he used to be great but time has caught up with him, the guy is done.

We don't need other team's rejects when we have good young players coming up, I'd rather give them the ice time instead of giving it to a has been.

I think you are missing the very obvious point here : Anaheim didnt want to pay him 8.6 (frank)ing millions, no argument there, he not worth even half that anymore

Here, the premise was him at ONE

We're still talking about a 1M contract here right?
- Scabeh

He will get more than that.

You do realize Corey Perry isn't in fact Alexander Semin in disguise right?

it's a player who used to be a contribute but who has aged poorly and has a hard time keeping up with the speed of the game

Maybe, but the more he gets, the bigger the risk.

So depending on the contract, my stance on this could easily change.

I did say the odds were not in his favor.

But I'd take still the bet for 1M if I were Bergevin.

Haven't read anything about any Luongo buyout, is it in the air?
Now THAT'S a guy I would offer 1M

Well, I think even at $1M it is not a good idea.

Blocks a contract spot, takes a roster spot from a kid (potentially), we have enough bottom 6 guys to fill 3 teams, and he can't skate on a team build on speed.

There are more reason for this to be problematic than for this to be a success.

Even at ONE, he would still be taking a roster spot instead of giving it to an upcoming young player who could benefit from the experience.

Perry is not going to get any faster at his age, so why bother? ... you might as well put McCarron in there (he's cheaper than one million).

no mean streak, no stanley cup ring, and mostly NOT GOOD ON THE PP

Its allright, lets agree to disagree

But personally I would sign him than you trade both Byron and Shaw ( and a pick if need be) for a good LD

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say Perry is not a good idea, unless it's Steve and the anthem is Don't Stop Believin'..

Agreed ... we all have a different philosophy on how a team should be built.
We are all just wannabee GM's anyway who don't have all the facts ... makes for interesting discussions.

I also wouldn't be opposed to make such a trade for a LD.

I'd take Perry over McCarron even if Perry was 67 years old and blind.... deaf too, with one leg.... and no arms
