I was about to say he must be happy about that deal.

Maybe now people will be more ready for a trade sooner than later so the kids can play.

I would never go over 4-5 years for ANY player unless it's a superstar.

Too much risks involved ... cap space is a resource that needs to be carefully managed just like any other asset. Risk Management 101.

What good is it for your team if you can't afford to surround your stars with other good players?

- Garfield512

I get your point, but players want term and you have to go there if you want to compete. If you trade all your players who are about to turn UFA you will always be in an endless rebuild.

Look at Price. He did not hit the market but got paid big time to stay in Montreal. It's not just july first. You have to pay before your asset hit the market.

In his case you could argue the team should have trade him since the core is younger than him and Weber...but that's another story.

I agree except you can't trade him until KK or Poehling prove themselves to be consistent two-way centres.

I don't know about you guys but I'm worried about how much Nick Suzuki will ask in 2024-2025 I think we may have a serious problem

Just saying...after that discussion the other day and seeing the Hayes contract... $6m would be a bargain and a steal for Phil...which writing that actually made me sad for the coming lockout

Agreed, we should already be thinking about trading KK and Poehling before they ask for a big payday.

I don't think KK is too far. But yeah, both are pretty youngs.

The thing is the more you wait, the more Danault should lose value as he will become a pure rental.

I'm pretty sure there is already a buyout clause in 2022 on that contract
