Not a problem at all.
1) Just because most players don't agree to mutual termination does not mean that Marleau can't agree to it. And after putting on my blue glasses and chugging a litre of blue Kool-Aid, I firmly believe that Marleau would want to do this - it's his best bet at getting back to San Jose.
2) He absolutely, positively is able to waive his NMC to be put on waivers. - Atomic Wedgie
As I mentioned earlier, I am not even sure him waiving would be necessary. If it was, then players could just do whatever they wanted and refuse to be put on waivers?

I think he deserves a shot. So Babcock is probably not the coach for him!
. . . in all honesty, the largest problem with any deal structured with Edmonton is that we both have tough cap considerations. On its own Brown for Puljujarvi is not really even. Brown has a 20 goal season, however, and Puljujarvi has scored 17 in his career. JP still gets the potential nudge, though, so you'd have to sweeten the pot.
If Edmonton really does want Zaitsev, then we'd have to take back some form of salary as well, because Benning's $1.9m isn't enough. The only real acceptable "dead" salary on Edmonton is Gagner's $3.1m. - Monkeypunk
Benning, Puljujarvi and Gagner for Brown, Sparks and Zaitsev. Then we can a UFA goalie.

but if he will sign for $1M I don't need him to be what I want, I just need him to fill a spot as cheap as possible to help us fill out a roster under the cap. - prock
I know. It's what we're all saying. Whether it was Allison, O'Neil, Lindros, the third coming of Clark, the return of Dougie . . . you can't temper that optimism. I remember being terribly disappointed by all of them, no matter how realistic about their performance I had been going in to the season.
Maybe Perry will be different, but I doubt it. It's also because sometimes when you're older, tired, and basically on the verge of retirement, you play like it. |

There is no if. When that happens, I insist you give your teammates wedgies as often as possible. |

Related to this - I saw that when Perry was bought out today, they just skipped the waivers process because he has an NMC. So there's that. |

Thankfully your failed optimism toward a player doesn't matter to anyone.
All that matters is the player who puts on the jersey produces and is a good teammate. |

The Leafs need Perry for the playoffs. So when we draw Boston in the first round again and a Bruin takes a cheap shot, Perry can cross check them in the face and get suspended for the series instead of Kadri - poopstash
I think the Leafs should have a series of goons taking turns in the lineup for this very purpose, so that when rats like DeBrusk try to take out the knees of a 30 goal scorer, they better pray that the score doesn't get out of hand.

I have no doubt there will be unrealistic expectations. that's a given.
All of those other guys, however, played at a time when the Leafs needed them to be good players for the team to be successful, not the veteran guys for depth on the roster, like we would be looking for, from a dirt cheap vet like Perry would be, if he actually ended up on the Leafs. |

yeah, I could see someone taking a shot for 3-4 million. I could also see him being on the scrapheap in September. |

Doubt that.
He probably takes a 1 year deal to prove he should get paid.
He's already getting paid so why not there is no risk. |

That looks right, but man are Edmonton in rough cap shape now. Folks talk about us being in cap hell - they're there while being a much worse team... |

Just gonna point out here that Dougie does not belong on this list.
He had a period - and didn't look too bad, IIRC - before blowing out his knee. |

Don't get me wrong, I think Perry would be a good fit here. Play him with Kadri, It just wouldn't surprise me if a team offers him $3-$4M per year. |

My failed optimism is presented as the basic landscape for most Leaf fans - even ones who try to temper their expectations. There's no need to get snippy about it.
I think that if he comes here and he'll get blamed for half of our losses because he's not the player he was.
I am not saying he couldn't be valuable. I'm saying that a player of his reputation playing at his current deprecated level should not play in this market.

To: EDM - Marleau + Kadri + C. Brown + Zaitsev + Sparks = 18.100 mil
To TOR: - Lucic + RNH + Kassian + Larsson = 18.120 mil
(could substitute K. Russell for Larsson - or sub Benning for Larsson)
(TOR would ave 2.1 mil if it was Benning)
EDM buys out Marleau - he signs for 1M in SJ
TOR trades Lucic to X-team for a nice sweetener (Bracco or 2020 2nd + 2019 4th)
HUUUUGE TRADE but everybody does ok here - Leafs could even trade RNH for
a top 4 RHD + 3rd line center ....I'll wait for the proverbial barrage |
