I'm not sure ridding the team of it's depth is the answer either. - aminnes
Can’t have good players because they cost too much individually.
Can’t have decent players because they cost too much collectively.
Can’t have cheap players because they suck.
Fold the franchise. Leafs can never win. |

For Komarov and Martin. Saves 5.5m, and adds playoff grit.
 - Steven_Seagull
Greiss, (backup to Andersen), Pulock, (RHD) Pelech (LHD), Cizikas and Josh Bailey for Tavares, Sparks and Zaitsev..
Solves almost all our problems.

Well, something has got to give. One of the big names will be gone if I was to guess. This is what the communist cap does. Spreads the talent around. Keeping teams from getting too ahead talent wise is what it manifests. 'Parody'. |

Ya in way for sure. The key is to make a run with one or two guys still in entry level. If that doesn't happen they have to be extremely creative. But ultimately teams with super expensive players don't seem to get that far. If a guy is overpaid, move on from him. |

After not drafting well for 40 years and relying on our financial might to solve our problems, and finally doing it right for 5 years . . .I'm not sure we're allowed to complain.
The Leafs are like the poster child for hockey privilege!

Having highly paid players didn’t work for Pittsburgh or Washington. |

Pittsburgh did not have 3 guys talking up over 40% of their cap. Neither did Washington. Some is fine, but the Leafs are in a bind. They should have signed AM and Marner last summer. hindsight 20/20 I guess. Then they set the president that if you sit you will get your money. Marner will sit on his ass for his 11.5 million.
Pittsburgh's last two cups, no one over 10 million. Plus a balanced cap d to forwards. Exact same with Washington. Can't have 3 11 million dollar forwards and expect to have a good defence. Every proposal people are giving to make room for these few players is to gut the depth of the team also which won't create a winner either. This is what the cap was meant to do. It's just sad the Leafs had to come to this point to realize it. |

Interesting angle.
Question for you; How could Dubas sign Matthews or Marner last July 2nd, if they both said they were going to bet on themselves and want to see how the season plays out before signing a new contract?
Do we still blame Dubas, if the players agents said; 'No, not now'? |

Trying to win while half of your $82M budget is tied to 4 players....
Good luck.
Not saying impossible, just improbable in a salary capped league. |

Nope. Players were smart and are trying to maximize their value. Can't blame anybody for that. |

That's great.. However, he was drafted by Chicago, he'd hurt the Hawks if he signed for that number with Chicago.

If they had done it prior to the JT signing it might have been possible. Both knew once he was there they were going to cash in.
I do however blame him 100% for Nylander. Either way, someone will have to go. |

That's kind of my line of thinking as well..
Once Tavares got his $11M, (he deserved it, I won't argue against signing Tavares) Matthews and Marner probably believe they are both better than Tavares and deserve more money |
