Sign Marner, trade the Swede.
 - Garnie
I agree in principle, but this would be a classic case of buy high and sell low. |
|
|
|
And I'm saying just let one of the Marlies play instead and save yourself a contract slot.
Use somebody who can get better going forward, not one that's going to get worse. - BINGO!

And only missed 4 games. - JohnFergusonJr

Stop being a d@ck. Did I say anything about Matthews not being good?
I only said he is not the 2nd best player in NHL like he is getting paid. He may become one, but he is not there yet. Heck you can even argue that’s the best contract in NHL given his age and when he will hit the open market.
I don’t even have a problem with the dollar value. The term, however is a killer. - gamerdoc
That term, he should be making 8-9 maybe.

Most in here are still high off his last tournament #’s. Supposedly most GM’s are stupid....so, we’ll be still selling high. |

I meant buying Marner high and sell WN low. I recognize you usually refer to the same commodity with the phrase but just implying philosophy in general |

A high Marner won't do the Leafs any good. His senses need to be razor sharp out there. |

All this talk about Marner wanting Mathews money sounds like bullpoop. You offer him 9.98 per and tell him that's it and if he doesn't sign by a certain date pack your (frank)ing bags. He grew up a die hard Leaf fan. He will cave or his whole life will be a puke of regrets. I really like Dubas but he's just gotta remember this is business not no cub scout rally.
P.S Marner is my fav player but I cheer for the crest on the front, not the name on the back. |

For sure, but I’m certain that feeling is quite prevalent amongst GMs, hence our dilemma. |

I don’t think Dubas has spine for that one, not after Willie debacles |

There's going to be plenty of slots open for Marlies. Doesn't mean every single one has to be used for them. The Tyler Ennis slot could easily be filled with Perry and bring a lot more physicality to the team. Especially with Marleau being shipped out, a veteran slot in the forward group isn't all that bad to have. |

0 Cups. 0 MVPs. Malkin signed before he won either. So...yeah.
Matthews was second in goals as a rookie. So again...yeah... - Steven_Seagull
Malkin didn’t get 11.6m as the highest paid in the NHL. Just sayin lol |

Which is why his cap hit percentage was higher than Matthews’....Malkin was also 2 years older. |

Kadri and Tavares are both 28, Muzzin is 30. Those are veterans that can still play hockey. |
