Hypothetically, would you be more upset to lose Marner or to lose both Nylander and Kadri? - PatC80
I'd be more upset to lose Marner. Marner is a first overall pick level of player. |

and your contribution to the discussion is ???
You think the Nylander saga was handled properly? You think Matthews for 5 years was a good deal?

You trade him after the December deadline so he loses a season and loses bargaining power.
Imagine the climate right now if the Leafs let Nylander sit. Players really would start to think twice.
Right now, the GMs are caving. - Aetherial

Marner way more.
What exactly has Nylander shown? Kadri is a good piece at a good price but he is nearing 30 (I think) and contributed heavily to failure during the last two playoffs. Marner is likely to be a top 10 forward in this league for a lot of years.

Nylander's contract is fine, but yes it was handled poorly.
IMO, Matthews had to get paid because of what Tavares got. |

Ek will have Marner traded to every team in the league. My proposal was a warm up. I can only imagine the $hit he'll be flinging. Roeper's guts may explode! 😂

Nylander? I don’t know I wasn’t in the negotiations. I have zero clue what both sides wanted and who budged. I doubt you do either.
Matthews? Yes. They can’t afford to pay him 14 million at 8 years. It’s not hard to understand.
Look at cap percentage comparables. Mcdavid took less and seems like he regrets it. Matthew probably learned from that. |

Ultimately. Nylanders contract is not the worst in the league, but I wouldn't be sad to see him traded. I am more p*ssed at the way the players are holding the GMs hostage and the GMs are caving and it is only going to get worse.

Kadri could very well be a cap casualty if Marner gets what he's asking for. - PatC80
Kadri being traded is more about not learning from his mistakes and letting his team down and sucking alot last year than about the cap. If it was only about relief the Leafs would be talking about a Nylander trade. Leafs are stacked at RW.

Hindsight is a female dog.
One thing is for sure missing a whole NHL a season ruins Nylanders development more than half.
Another thing is the Leafs have a less chance of winning missing a 1st like player.
Teams trade multiple 1sts for a rental 1st liner ffs. |

Too much for too short a time IMO
But I don’t care about that if it doesn’t affect the rest of our team, which it may.
With the cap maybe being lower does his agent give some of the dough back.
( since lots in here are concerned he should get a percentage of the cap )

No, but I don't like the way the Nylander thing went down and then he absolutely sucked for the year.
Matthews Vs. McDavid... Yeah McDavid may have regrets but I would suggest it has more to do with playing for a barely sub-arctic gong show than the money.
Matthews signed with a team that is pretty flawed, but I think we saw that they are also pretty close to serious contention no?
Also, Matthews <<<< McDavid. I would like to think that will change, but from what I have seen, I don't expect it to.

Sure, it sucked for both sides. It’s the way the negotiation went down...who knows who was sticking to their price and who budged.
And yeah for sure...but also he’s a superstar and if anyone deserves to get paid it’s the best player.
He took less money so players like Lucic and Koskinen could get overpaid. It sucks and as a player it’s a kick to the stomach.
I don’t blame Matthews at all for getting paid. Superstars are worth every penny. |

Off the top of my head I can’t think of one specifically.
I can think of Hanzal for a 1st,2nd,4th. The Tatar trade was a 1st,2nd and 3rd.
Those players are no where near Nylander. In a cap world you don’t waste years of contending. |
