This is actually a more succinct version (no surprise there) of what I was getting at. What do you think Marleau's actual FMV would be? I saw Bobby point out he's a 20 goal guy, and it's basically true. But he's declining and I think most people would expect that getting 12 goals out of Marleau this year would be a boost over expectations.

To me, if I was signing him now, I'd give him a $1.5m contract with performance bonuses equivalent to another $1.5 maybe, knowing he'd never really hit them.

Didn't he score 17 last year on the 3rd line with zero power play time?

It's not a bad contract it's a bad cap hit, after July 1st his salary is 2.75 and he almost always scores 20.

Florida has said they're spending this year, so they'll be concerned about the cap hit. Let's be real, when we mean bad contract as fans we mean cap hit. We're not the ones cutting checks.

They can't, all they can eat is 1.375.

If the leafs trade him on July 2 and take half his cap/salary then yes it's 1.375 in real dollars but it's 3.125 in salary cap.

Just spitballing ...

Thornton got 1 yr 5 milly last summer.
Filpulla got 1 yr 2.75 ..
Plekanek got 1 yr 3.25 ..
Vanek got 1 yr 3 milly ..

I think/hope theirs some team on the west coast that values him at 3+. And after July 1 I think he only has about 2.75 in real salary. So if the Leafs ate 1/3 of the contract then the other team is only paying about 1.8 and taking on about 4 million in cap hit.

That sounds doable? I hope ...

I don't know if it works that way, I think the cap hit is the salary retained though.

#NHLDucks are in the process of finalizing paperwork to buy out Corey Perry this morning. Perry is not expected to be placed on waivers, by virtue of his no-move clause. Big name for the #FreeAgentFrenzy list. #TSN

I’d take him on a short term contract. 2 yr 3 million or something.

He might not be great but he could muck it up with kadri and still play on the pp. could be useful for playoffs.

He scored 16 and 4 were on the PP. He was 6th in Average PP time among forwards, ahead of Johnsson and Kapanen, but behind Tavares, Marner, Matthews, Kadri and Nylander.

Even just watching him . . . 5 on 5 last year, I found that he was disengaged. He rarely checked anyone.

If perry gets bought out today does he immediately become a free agent or does he have to wait till July 1?

I bet, let's say...2 cents..., that the Rangers gonna win the Cup before the Leafs does - probably 2046 vs 2049

I felt that every time against the boards he was on the wrong side of the opposing player, maybe he just doesn't want to be here.

I think we're looking at the wrong angle on this ....west coast team just saved themselves about 6 milly in cap space for the coming season.

I don't know if I'm interpreting this properly or not, :

"When a team trades a player, they have the option to retain a part of their salary (and cap hit). The team who retains the salary then pays the retained percentage of the salary, and also retains the percentage of the cap hit until the contract expires. The following requirements must be met to retain salary:"

The percentage of salary that you retain would equate the percentage of cap-hit, I would imagine. So you can retain 50% of his salary and that would equate to 50% of his cap-hit. From an actual dollars perspective, though, using that wording, the SALARY is $1.25m, so they could only eat about $660k, leaving the receiving team to pay him $660k and his $1.5m bonus.

His cap hit, though, would be $3.125 million.

. . . "Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos said" . . . .

It could be true, but I'd rather not hear it from him.

Stone over marner?

Jesus. What have we come to?

A 62pt player with a 9.5 cap who's 27 over a 22 year old 94 pt player.

Hilarious.
