they kept trouba trying to win a sc this season.
every gm in league knew wpg has cap issues and trouba wanted to play in us.
they got fair value considering the timing of the trade.

- MaximusAurelius

yes, the trade was fair value.

but far from equal value. and brutual on taking back a guy that will cost them 3.5-4M when they need to clear out space, not add.

Ferris was clearly willing to get it done prior to last season: https://www.bardown.com/m...-with-the-leafs-1.1183143

9M for 22 goals and 69 points? I can see why they wouldn’t go for that.

Based solely on those two numbers I can too, just like my issue with Nylander. But they did know he led the team in scoring, and they did know he would be playing with JT. There was talk he was interested in 8 million. Still too much based solely on those two numbers, but they had to know he was just getting started. I mean, they gave AM his money based partially on what he will do in the future. 11.5 for 35 goals and 65 games a year would be too much if not for his perceived potential.

nylander was said to ask for 8mln and signed for 6.9aav.
so not unrealistic to think that 7.75-8mln aav would have been a contract marner woyld have signed.
dubas didnt think that was fair value apparently - hence i say he dropped the ball (it seems he didnt understand hos good marner is - in general he has issues valueing players (holl, nylander, sparks, etc.))

???

based on the articles, marner's camp took the position of $9M now or just wait until next year.

Good point. He wanted 9, probably settles for 8, maybe 8.5. Now he wants what AM got. At least. If this was all true and they got him at 8.5, what a bargain that deal would be going forward. 95-100 points a season for at least 1.5 less than market value. Dang.

LOL, you really want to try to prove your opinion of Dubas is valid. You are reaching big time.

Gotta stop living in the past.

You keep saying this. Who cares what he signed for, his cap hit is ~6.9.

i'm guessing nylander cares what the actual dollars he is getting is, as opposed to the made up cap hit.

UFA years sure.

RFA? Yeah you get a significant pay cut.

He doesn’t deserve JT money in RFA years. Not a chance.

95 points is great. But people are forgetting scoring is up like crazy. The art ross winners used to be 85 points....

The Cap hit is what matters to the team and the fans, though. What he gets in actual cash is immaterial to us.

I say that cause that's what he signed for, if he gets traded some other team pays him 6.9.
He signed here for 7.5.

Dubas is scared to act. Too much to soon for him.

He’s in a pickle. Going to be a seat of your pants fun time over the next few days & weeks. Any good rumours that have legs?
