what did lowry do to deserve his contract?
- Tumbleweed

He is a 5 time all star? And his contract doesn’t destroy the chance of your team winning.

Can you say the same for AM, WN and MM?

Not everybody has to be fast. If he's healthy, he'd be great in the corners, something the Leafs are lacking.
- JohnFergusonJr

puck will be gone before he gets there.

i think a pto is the smart route with him. if someone offers him a one-way deal, so be it.

Point is Lowry is a veteran who got paid in UFA.

AM, for all his brilliance, is a RFA who got his right to UFA in the first eligible year with MAX contract.

Do you really think he is 2nd best player (like his contract is) in NHL at this point? Not even close, given the performance in the playoffs.

Welcome to the new NHL; you'll be punished for drafting well.
- PatC80

You mean, punished for finishing near the bottom for a decade straight.

Your argument was a bust. lol

So? Malkin signed a 5 year deal after his ELC, so did Stamkos.

Matthews playoff performance? You mean the 4 goals in 6 games as a rookie? Or the 5 goals in 7 games this year? Or are you one of those losers who calls Matthews a playoff bust because of last year, while ignoring the other two years?

Then trade Marner or let a team offer sheet him.
- Steven_Seagull

Sign Marner, trade the Swede.

50 goal Perry is finished.

3rd line, 15-20 goal, 1 year, 1 million Perry might not be.

Cup / MVP / Richard winners.

Is Matthews going to do that next year?

0 Cups. 0 MVPs. Malkin signed before he won either. So...yeah.

Matthews was second in goals as a rookie. So again...yeah...

He's 34, last hit 20 goals in 2015-2016, only managed 31 games last season (and 10 points)...

The dude is broken.

Malkin went to the Cup Finals in year 2. Won the Conn Smythe and the Cup in year 3.

So, again, will Matthews be winning the Cup and the Conn Smythe next year?

Stop being a d@ck. Did I say anything about Matthews not being good?

I only said he is not the 2nd best player in NHL like he is getting paid. He may become one, but he is not there yet. Heck you can even argue that’s the best contract in NHL given his age and when he will hit the open market.

I don’t even have a problem with the dollar value. The term, however is a killer.

No doubt, major knee surgery held him out for 5 months and playing for an atrocious team doesn't help.

A full offseason to recover, plus playing with the right players could make him a bargain.

I'm not here saying, sign Perry for 1 million and expect 50 goals. I'm saying, if he's healthy, he can be a player who helps the Leafs be more physical and bring playoff experience on the cheap.

Malkin also had 100 point seasons in year 2 and 3.

And only missed 4 games.

you didn't watch him last year huh?

Marleau's faster.

(frank)ing Roman Polak might be faster.

- BINGO!

Hey, leave Roman out of this.

Roman’s probably faster getting back then Gardiner

And I'm saying just let one of the Marlies play instead and save yourself a contract slot.

Use somebody who can get better going forward, not one that's going to get worse.

He makes a line

Nylander is on a line
