People who don't really follow the Blues, who act as excited about this Cup win as those of us who've lived and died with this team our whole lives, are annoying I agree. But I focus on this: some of those bandwagoners just never followed hockey, and were made fans by this run. Some of the ones who will ignore hockey as soon as Blues aren't winning, have kids who were just converted for life.

I dunno. I love to watch hockey, but I don’t have the insights of a player as I’ve never played. I love to follow the off season maneuvering and figure out how teams maximize the talent on their roster in the cap era.

All I know is that anytime a purity test is introduced for something like team fandom, I wonder if that’s a step too far. For many, successful sports teams are as much about community pride as it is the actual sport. It’s a way to find social connections in an otherwise neutral stranger interaction.

Maybe I was too quick to criticize. If not for Brett Hull I might not have followed as early as I did. Kids have to start somewhere and it's awesome that more people watched during this incredible run. The ones that don't care will fall away quickly enough and the Blues might now have a lot more young local fans that will grow up with this team.
