A signing of Trouba along with retaining and re-signing Kreider by the end of June, 2020, and potential UFA in Panarin, will require Gorton to utilize buyout means of Shatty's and also likely Smith's contracts, since both received no interest in trades, despite the Rangers willing to retain 50% of their remaining contracts. If not, there must be some trades coming down to create additional cap space. Also, as of today's pro roster, effective for the 2021/22 season, only 3 players will still have time remaining on their contracts in Zib, Skjei, and Fox, (along with Kravtsov in key being one of 4 others among current non roster players).

Trouba will likely command a 7 year deal between $7.5 to $8.5M annually.

The 3 highest paid d'men are E.K. ($11.5M), Doughty ($11M), Subban ($9M).
Next are Ekman-Larsson ($8.25M), and John Carlson & Brent Burns ($8M).

Then down the line between $7.87M down to $7.0M in descending order are Hedman $7.87M, Weber $7.85M, Bfuglien $7.6M, Suter $7.53M, Ekblad $7.5M, Letang $7.25M, and Vlasic at $7M.

Shatty's $6.65M alone, makes Trouba at least worth 15% to 25% or so higher.

And don't forget this season's remaining top potential UFA d'men in Myers (current $5.5M expiring), Edler (curr. $5.25M exp.), and Gardiner (curr. $4.05M exp.), when considering what Trouba's next contract will be worth annually coming off his $5.5M of this past season.

TJ, remember when I told u Karlsson said last year he wanted to be the highest paid defenseman? He got what he wanted, just glad it wasn’t from us.

Elliotte Friedman was interviewed on NHL Network early this evening on their "NHL Tonight" show. After discussing the Rangers acquisition of Trouba, when asked about their interest in Panarin, he said they were interested, but also replied, "a lot of "people", (I assume meaning hockey media, writers, experts, and members of team organizations), feel that Panarin will be Florida bound". He did not mention, nor was asked if they felt whether Bobrovsky would be also signing with the Panthers, for their very first need which cost them a playoff spot last season.

Friedman also mentioned that "lots of teams are interested in Kreider," should the Rangers decide to move him to create more cap space. I would retain and re-sign Kreider ahead of next season's trade deadline the latest, or if further necessary, before the free agency talking period only begins.

TJ still says, "haha."

But I remember it as well when E.K. first stated that demand, which led me from when he was still with Ottawa, wanting no part of him, due in key to his past injury history, as well as in part for his defensive game issues. But mainly it was due to the Rangers having announced earlier their plans to sell and go under a few years rebuild plan.

That demand by Karlsson was why the Sharks were forced to pay E.K. an extra $500K annually over Doughty's $11M salary.

If we sign Panarin I’m comfortable with trading Kreider. But if we come up short on Panarin I think we should sign Kreider to an extension. My guess is he could get us into the teens at the draft.

If 7x7 is the benchmark for a 50 pts middle6 player, the Cap needs to be 100M+.

It's lazy Haze ffs

I guessed he would get 6.5, but he's hardly worth more than 6.

Hayes got the exact contract I was expecting the Rangers to give Trouba

I'm amazed Hayes got that much man, wow

good player, but $7,142,857 mil a year until 2026?

that is an absurd contract AAV wise and length wise, double whammy

ultimately , it makes their team better though and that's all they care about

Trouba would get 8M per easily, but I got a feeling he's signing for less...
Guessing 7.25 and won't be surprised if he's here for the rest of his career, followed by a front office job.

Even if he gets 8, I’m fine with it. We’re young enough with to get through it now and when those guys are due for raises Hank/Shatty/Staal/Smith will all be gone.

You finally got your guy so you're fine with giving him the bank. 8 is too much, hoping he takes less to sign here with his fiance.
