No there's not lots of talk on Marner. It's being kept very quiet. All Leaf followers know that. So how is it you have these so-called sources deep in the Leaf's organization? How is it that someone who never played, coached, was an agent, or was involved in any organization at any level have all these sources?

MASSIVE overpayment for Hayes.

Duchene and Panarin must just be in ecstasy today.....if Hayes gets 7, those two guys are easily going to push close to 10

It must make you feel good to find one GM more naive than the Dubas choke show.

Skinner has proven multiple times he can score 30 though.

Time for people to start looking at how Sakic is building his team around a very young core of elite players based on current actual value.

Teams need to sign their top players to max contracts at the age of 22-23 and be prepared to allow them to walk at age 30 unless they take the appropriate salary reduction consistent with their production.

Real fear is if the cap stagnates. I don’t see that happening, new American TV contract and expansion. Of course a lock out would be interesting

I just threw up a little bit, that’s an expensive average at best 3C.

Waiting for Ek’s rationale on why this will be a good move for the Flyboys and cause some bedlam.

Happy to have Fletcher in the division.

Look I don't love Hayes but he was scoring at a 63 pt pace over 82 games this year. That's not 3c production

That's the problem though. Teams keep overpaying players and the salaries go up. Fans then justify their own players salaries by saying they're bargains. Cap remains stagnant yet the middle tier players keep getting overpaid. Agents compare their players to other players making more money. All they need is one inflated contract like Hayes and the trend continues.
- gergeswillems

The system is eventually going to fail

Salaries are outgrowing your cap structure by a wide margin.

Eventually it has to stop, GMs will stop just giving in(I hope) players will cry collusion and wham-o its another lockout.

Seems like a bit of overpayment by the Flyers for Hayes. However I would not be surprised if Hayes has his best seasons over the next 3-4 years and potentially 30+ goals and 70+ points as a 2C. The Flyers are putting strong pieces together with a really good young core.
The Defense looks very strong with a young, large, mobile team (Myers, Sanheim, Provorov, Morin, Zamula) and now excellent veteran pieces that will help lead them for the next few years. Plus more good D still in the system and add to that Broberg or Seider, both potential #1 D-men.

Add to that 3-4 stud young forwards (Farabee, Frost, Ratcliffe & Rubtsov) the next couple years that help stabilize the salary cap issues. They have a ton of secondary prospects that will fill in well in bottom 6 forward rolls over the next several seasons (Allison, Strome, Cates, Laczynski , Vorbyov, Kubel) and bottom pair defense (St.Ivany, Kalynuk, Hogberg, Friedman, Ginning &Wylie)

With Hart in goal they have the makings of a team built to contend for some time. Backups: (Ersson, Ustimenko, Sandstrom).

I still feel they did overpay for Hayes but there was no other #2 centre available on the market with out giving up prospects to get him. This was only 💰 and allowed them to keep the prospects that they have assembled under Hextall.
If they get a good enough offer they may trade Ghost 👻 in the draft (say Vancouver) 1st pick (Prodkozin or Boldy), prospect or another pick next year.

They have had a top prospect pool for several years. I realize that is just potential, but Hextall has a pretty proven record of solid drafting and all the scouts in place during his tenure are still there, Fletch did not change anything there. The Flyers will be set up for success now and the future.
Don’t sleep on the Flyers they are finally set up to be relevant for some time.

I could live with 6 Mill as Nelson pretty much set the market but 7 seems excessive.

Dude better perform in Philly.

Not Massive but it is an overpayment. Brock Nelson got 6 mill. Thats gonna change the market. You are looking at guys making this much now.

Hayes’s contract aside, in the last few days the Flyers have gotten bigger and slower with the additions of Braun and Hayes. Looks like they’re bucking the league wide trend of getting smaller and faster.

On Marner...

Lots of talk that a Mitch Marner deal with the Leafs could be close... and it’s a HUGE deal...

Relax. This contract won't look so bad in its 8th year.

It's almost like GMs don't care about the long term ramifications of these contracts. They only care about today. I have a need. I'll fill it. I don't care about escalating salaries for everyone else. I only care about my team. I won't be around long enough for my foolish contract to bite me in the a$$. Let my replacement clean up my mess.
- gergeswillems

These teams should be looking at what Lombardi did with insane contracts (and now Blake with Kopitar's) and should have taken notes. The Kings are in a bad position because they can't do a full rebuild with bad contracts of Quick, Carter, Kopitar and Brown. Along with Kovy but I am sure a team will take him this next deadline or the year after when it is his last year of that contract.

I fail to see why this is an issue. Slight overpayment, yes. Outlandish? No. Brock Nelson got 6 mil for 6 years. 53 points. Skinner got 9 mil for 63 points

Hayes...55 points...7.1 mil

Like i said...slight overpayment

- Hckygoalie31

Kevin Hayes has scored more than 15 goals in his career just twice and only scored over 50 pts this past year in his career.

Nelson getting a 6x6 is not even comparable as he has 4 20 goal seasons.

Skinner is 5x above Hayes in terms of importance with his goal tallies.
