What the hell man, u r just unfoundly going to repeat this all summer i assume? those would be career highs for 27 year old Hayes... do u understand it is more likely a guy regresses, not improves... plus his career high in goals is 19...19!!! how did the NHL get in this mess...

& again.. what amazing prospect do u keep referring to?? AHL prospects & the whole lot is a gamble, crap shoot, by & large blue chip prospects r well known & always on the verge of being in the NHL.. i dont see these players per say in the current philly pipeline..??

Not just career highs. Career highs by a 40% increase off his previous career high.

At 27.

This feels like a David Clarkson type signing, but worse.

I understand your skepticism but Hayes will get more ice time with better wingers. Better overall team mobility of moving the puck. He is also not worried about signing a contract as he is set, he just has to play hockey as he can.
There is no reason to think he can’t produce career highs. Time will tell.

By the way I am suggesting he may score 6 more goals and 10 more assists for career highs, which I don’t think is really asking too much.

problem is, all those guys already have the overpayment built in.

$6M would have been the 'right' overpayment. $7.1M smells of desperation from a gm who didn't want to look stoopid for losing a 5th for nothing.

Look....I'll do one from the list to show:

E Kane: Signed in 2018
7m, 7 years (age 34 when contract expires)
2018: 54 pts in 78 games
2017: 43 pts in 70 games
2016: 35 pts in 65 games
Average: 51 points per 82 games

How does the math work?

132 points in 213 games = 132 pts divided by 213 games = .61 pts per game x 82 games = 50.02 points per 82 games. I rounded up.

So....Evander Kane gets 7 mil for .61 pts per game

Hayes gets 7.14 for .66 pts per game on a contract he signed a year later.

So....really....who's got the better contract? Hayes....or Kane? Keeping in mind the Kane is also a winger.

yes, historically players always see new highs AFTER signing a long term contract right? Never going into a UFA year. Nope, never happens.

Nope, no reason to think a 27 year old will not produce career highs. By 40% increases. No reason at all.

Well me personally I would go with neither, if I could, but if I had to I would go with the guy that regularly scores in the 30 goal range.

Kane has done that twice....as a Winger. In 2011....and last year.

Hayes has yet to do it....but also has 5 years under his belt, where Kane has 10

wow, yo'ure a real piece of work.

I said he regularly scores in the 30 goal range. He's got 28, 29, and 30 in his last 3 seasons. So unless you don't feel 28 is in the 30 goal range, you're being obtuse.

Second, you've been going on about how Hayes is a 55 point player based on his 82 game pace, despite the fact that his ACTUAL career high is below 50, and suddenly Kane is not even in the range of a 30 goal scorer despite the fact that he was over a 30 goal pace over 82 games in ALL of his last 3 seasons.

You're ridiculous. You're making an ass of yourself.

Skinner has proven multiple times he can score 30 though.
- poisondhearts37

Skinner is also a big minus player in his career. Hayes is not.
Not defending the signing at all. I think it's a huge overpayment. Flyers outbid themselves again. Just like Bryzgalov.

It's almost like GMs don't care about the long term ramifications of these contracts. They only care about today. I have a need. I'll fill it. I don't care about escalating salaries for everyone else. I only care about my team. I won't be around long enough for my foolish contract to bite me in the a$$. Let my replacement clean up my mess.

As a Wild fan, that is the EXACT description of Chuck Fletcher. Sure am glad he is not with the Wild anymore.

As those in my section---224 in MSG---know, my "pet name" for Hayes is "sluggo"---he is a slug on the ice. At times it seems as if he can hardly move. It's maddening to watch him try to go around the same 3 guys while you yell "shoot". When discussing Hayes, my opinion was that there was "no way" the Rangers were going to give him 6 million dollars a year. And now the Flyers give him 7---for 7 years! Typical NHL GM---overpaying. When will the Flyers EVER address their goaltending problems? Enjoy your slug!
