I was on the fence for Bryzgalov. I didnt want him but wasnt overly upset we got him. I didnt believe he was as bad as people act like he was. He was a good goalie who was paid as an elite goalie. - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Totally agree. I feel the same. |

Most recent Flyers 2nd round picks that are now at least pro-eligible
Hagg, NAK, Allison, Hart, Laberge, Ratcliffe.
5 of the 6 reached at least the Phantoms after the 2 years in junior/Euro Pros post draft as is usual. The other (Allison) Hextall was on record saying he wished he would turn pro.
Hart earned the starting goalie position for the Flyers after his draft +2 year and is now penciled by most as at least a + starting goalie for the Flyers for the next ten years.
Your argument is based on two things. An egregious misjudgement of the player that Braun is. And a complete lack of understanding of the value of a second round pick, not to mention the additional third (which was the route we landed the point-man on our PP)
I can't argue with stupid. - Lip_Out

the guy also ranked out at the following amongst dman last year:
31st in DZ stick checks
24th in DZ puck battles won
37th in DZ denied entries
12th in SH blocked shots
you could also look at last year as an outlier, one of his down years, but also still played 20+ minutes during the season and 21+ in the playoffs. He was a regularly depended on dman for a team that go to within 2 games of the cup finals. - sjk540
I can appreciate a well-reasoned argument.
Braun does have a history of defending the blue line well and sound play in his own zone. His possession and offensive numbers have taken a serious dip and betting on a 32 year old to rebound by nature of a 2nd and a 3rd is an overpay.
Fletcher/AV seem to have prioritized a couple guys who deny the blue-line well and can theoretically pair with Provy and Sanheim, we'll see if it works. Personally think Ghost would have been perfectly suitable to pair with Provy, they've largely worked. |

I think the team is STILL paying Bryz too...until something like 2025
Edit: Sorry 2026-27...1.64M - JW98FlyerFan
Is Briere and Bryzgalov dead space against the cap? If not, this is like arguing how much an employee for the Flyers makes that isn’t a player. |

Yeah I skimmed the roster real quick, found this interesting, but expected...
Lindblom - 5th
Raffl - Undrafted
Ghost - 3rd
Braun - 7th
Hagg - 2nd
Hart - 2nd
Where are all the other players? ALL other players are 1st round picks. - Glak18
for every ghost and lindblom outlier there are hundreds who dont make it. Just love the well Ghost was a 3rd rd pick so ..... |

People arent really looking at this the right way
1) Hayes had 54 points last season in 71 games. That is 62 point rate
2) 60% of Hayes' season was spent in NY where he did not have much support.
3) Hayes from what I am aware, did not get much PP time
Deal actually isnt as bad as it originally looked |

Logic would tell you the stats are what they are. We had a poop PP with really good players on it last season. |

To me the bottom line is if they can get a legit right wing that can score 20 to 30 goals for Ghost Then how would we feel about that? That would be a pretty damn deep team with 4 solid lines. There is still a chance to get that or an up and coming player ( such as J.Virtanen, Vancouver etc) and recoup the 2nd. There is talk(not just From Ek) that both Vancouver and Montreal are interested in Ghost. There are several players both vets and up and coming that interest me on both those teams.

It took coots until season 7 to break 40 pts. I think Hayes still has more to give. Hes 27. He still has good years left in him |

Yeah that was part of the narrative...leave out ALL the other 2nd and 3rd round picks that never amounted to nothing.
Maybe the Flyers would of drafted another Carter Hart with this year's 2nd round pick. Sounds awesome!! Put him on the bottom of the stack behind Sandstrom, Ustimenko and Ersson.
Maybe that 2nd rounder will be another Laberge who will never play in the NHL or maybe they get lucky and draft another Allison who plays 4 years of college, spend a couple years in the AHL and have to beat out 15 other prospects plus experienced NHL players to get a spot. |

This whole concept is being debated in reference to the Braun trade. If you want to defend the Braun trade and advocate for similar style trades in the future, carry on.
If you'd prefer intelligent utilization of assets might want to take a different side Feanor. - Lip_Out
You make a good point if they repeatedly make trades like this. The prospect pipeline eventually dries up and it’s not sustainable.
What if this was a one time deal, given the context of a need filled and thankfully because of Hexy’s work they are currently flush with good prospects and draft picks? |

I just don't like the way Fletcher operates. He made the team better right now. But did not maximize the return on most deals. Hopefully, in subsequent moves he remembers that there will be more seasons after this one.
In the end, if they are good next year and make some noise in the playoffs I will get over it. - mickel25
He's been given a mandate. This is the Flyers MO going forward.

I can't believe that Fletcher has given away our high-end young talent and draft picks to make the team better in the present. |

Health is irrelevant. If Sidney Crosby only played 71 games because of injury would you pay him less? It isnt as if the guy is missing half a season every year. He produces at a 60 point rate which is good and what we need. JVR could have hit 30 goals if he was healthy, doesnt mean he cant be healthy this year and wont hit 30 this year. |

I just hate that they're basically not going to have any flexibility going forward, probably until the expansion draft honestly. It's going to be pretty tight trying to sign their RFAs and a backup. |

Only problem is Frost doesn't play RW. Every time I've seen him play live or on tv he plays C or LW. It would be interesting to see if he could adapt to the RW spot though. |
