NMC isnt a huge deal, we all know that flyers can negotiate with Seattle to not take certain players. |

Can you imagine the value Hexy would be able to get out of Fletcher in any expansion trades? |

Oh we effed then
I could defend Fletcher's moves up until this. This is truly terrible. We will be losing a young gun and it's going to suck - bulet13
I agree. I was trying to remain open-minded, but the NMC combined with the term is really nauseating. |

I liked Roman - was young, won a spot in pre-season. Went back to Russia I think. Flyers still own his rights. Could come back after some more seasoning. |

The term, the amount, this guy better have 25 goals and 60 points, which i highly doubt seeing how he probably is not on PP1. |

And who knows, maybe he blossoms into a top 2c that helps drive play and allows Patrick to dominate inferior competition... Maybe? Perhaps.. |

Oh I’m willing to debate this. You said the Flyers aren’t ready. And that they shouldn’t add. I asked you when is a team ready? Is there some quantifiable statistic that states a team is ready? Or is that just your opinion? Because your whole argument about their offseason is based on this ready or not argument. They sure looked pretty ready last offseason. Could have used several big pieces that never came. And thus we got last season.
- Flyers1218
I'm puzzled by you asking if it is just my opinion. That question doesn't make much sense. We're all just giving our opinions. You're also incorrect in stating that my whole argument is based on them not being ready now. That's not accurate. I disagree that the Flyers looked pretty ready last season. I see a team with a 20 year old goaltender, a #1 defenseman who is 21, Sanheim is in his early 20's. Other young players such as Patrick, Konecny, Lindblom all need to mature for this team to reach true contender status. Maybe you think that adding Niskanen, Braun, and Hayes changes any of that. It doesn't in my opinion. Makes them better. Adds support but at what cost to the future. Now is not the time to make moves from the perspective of trying to win now in my opinion.
Then when posters brought up the Blues, you used your crystal ball and said they were further along then the Flyers and that they were ready and so it made sense for them to add. I destroyed that argument yesterday, which you conveniently ignored.
- Flyers1218
They won the Stanley Cup. My crystal ball was correct. You didn't destroy anything. You brought up adding O'Reilly and erroneously and foolishly equated it to what the Flyers are doing. The Blues were further along as a team and added a legit NHL #1 center. The Flyers just paid Hayes, who is a decent 2nd line center, destined to be a 3rd line center for 7 years and a NMC, who they now need to protect in the expansion draft. What will that cost the Flyers? I called you out on that when you posted it so saying I ignored it is fantasy on your part.
And now again you brought up your whole “when a team is ready argument” and I’m asking when that is? When is a team ready and can they add big time players?
- Flyers1218
You know it when your team is close and they show that with their play. You want to retain flexibility both in terms of player assets and cap assets until you get to a point where you're ready to fine tune a team. The team's needs now could very well be different and most likely will be when the team gets to the point of being close. For example, there is a good chance that the Flyers just signed a player who by the time the Flyers reach true contender status could very well be reduced to being a role player at a 7M cap hit while younger players play a bigger role. That cap space could come in handy to fill a need that you actually have at that point in time. That's why the timing of making certain movers is so important. Otherwise you run the risk of being one of those teams that is capped out, lacks flexibility to make a move they need to make and winds up having to give up quality assets in order to work around that. That hurts the continuing pipeline of talent coming in that you need to sustain a team.
It’s ok, I’ll answer for you. You don’t know. You don’t know if draft and develop works better than spend to the cap and being aggressive. Because for every Los Angeles and Chicago there is an Edmonton and Buffalo. And on the flip side for every aggressive Flyers and Rangers team that traded picks spent to the cap to try and win there was a Penguins and Blues team that spent to the cap and traded picks aggressively that DID win. - Flyers1218
None of us know for sure so it's really asinine to state that. There are far more teams that draft and develop to build the core of their team then win than teams that try to buy and trade their way to the Cup. Which is why you don't see teams using free agency and trades as their main method of team building. You ignore the actual facts and how the league is now. There is no doubt that staying patient, managing the cap for the future, drafting and developing and then later supplementing with trades and free agency is the way to go. Don't just make moves, make the right moves. If you think that the Flyers are making the right moves, I would disagree. |
