This will be the worst contract of the summer bar none
That is an embarrassment. Period. - Just5
Wait til Duchene's contract is announced or Panarin's for that matter. The market has changed. No more bridge contracts, pay the kids immediately everyone and their grandmothers get NMCs. |

I know you're all freaking out right now but on a lighter note, when was the last time the Flyers had this many Americans on the roster? |

I don't understand the need to pay a 45-55 point player 7+M per year for 7 years. |

Anyone see or hear about Raffl being traded for Alex Tuch? Could have been my friend busting my balls but Fletch is on a roll... couldn't rule it out... |

It's steep and we are taking hits from all fanbases right now. My only retort is who did Hayes play with in NY and Winnipeg? I can't imagine he had talented wingers like JvR and Jake. I could see him close to 65-70 pts with those two (2nd line ish minutes) for majority of season. |

I defended it up until I learned there’s an NMC through expansion draft. Utter desperation on the flyers part |

It didn't make sense to me but it was one of those "official" trade photos from Twitter. Took a lot of time and care. That wiener. |

It’s June 2019 and talking about an expansion draft 3 years away. This is what the flyers organization has become. Not about winning - daryl stanley
Pretty much....we went from firing the coach and GM during the season to talking about what they’d do at the draft/offseason to now which person we’d lose at a distant expansion draft with players who may or may not be on the team at that time. This is a neurotic message board today. |

Couldn't this type of contract support bridge deals? Why would young start players want to eat into their UFA years when contracts like this are being handed out? |

Is it a fair assumption to say we're mad at Hayes the contract vs Hayes the player?
I mean he has played 0 games for the Flyers. If he comes in and does what he's supposed to do, does that soften the blow of this egregious contract? - Pelle31Forever
Yes it is. I am looking forward to next year. This team should be much improved.
I will say, if this team struggles early, say like a 10-11-2 record, it's not going to be pretty in here. |

How about Erik Karlsson with 8x$11.5 at age 29 with a full NMC and a lot of mileage? He is a better player by far than Hayes, but you don’t think they are going to regret that $11.5 million in 4 or 5 years?
I’m pretty much strictly a reader here, but I had to comment because of all of the gnashing of teeth in general here over 2 draft picks this year (2 and 5) and one next for players that will hopefully steady the ship a bit this season and get our youth pointed in the right direction.
These are exactly the type of pieces people in here have been clamoring for, a #2 center and a top four veteran defenseman. Yes, we have an additional steady defenseman added, but Hägg and Morin are not certainties and Braun will likely come in handy.
I don’t necessarily like the NMC but he was going to get that from somebody. We haven’t traded away any of our youth, we still have a lot of draft picks, and the draft picks a we traded would have been a roll of the dice. We look like we will be a better team, and our future still looks bright, so what is the real problem here?

It's the off season. Plenty of things to talk about. How the Hayes signing affects the Flyers long term is relevant conversation. Including how the NMC affects the expansion draft protected list. Nothing neurotic about it.

I backed Fletcher earlier. I can not anymore. The contract without a NMC is fine. With it it's terrible. Ghost or one of TK, Linblom, or NoPa are gone - bulet13
I'm genuinely starting to believe that he learned nothing from his time w/ the Wild.
He's gonna trade Ghost in a Burns/Leddy kind of deal. It's practically inevitable. |
