It's called planning ahead. Something that Chuck Fletcher doesn't seem to take seriously.
- Tomahawk

Maybe he's planning to lose JVR or Voracek

Maybe he's planning to trade Ghost and go 7-3-1

I understand that we might not LIKE the plan, but don't you think it's a little aggressive to think that they don't have something sketched out somewhere?

It was stupid. Do I need to go pull a two for one trade to show you that you have no idea what you're talking about??? You're clearly upset over the moves but you're not this dumb.
- hereticpride

Yes, please go ahead. Make sure it's a two for one where the other team had to make the move to avoid losing a player in the expansion draft. Then we'll discuss what it cost the Wild when Fletcher was their GM. It was slight hyperbole but trading from a position of weakness doesn't always work in your favor. If you think that is stupid then maybe you are, nah I won't say it.

Lots of other things will surely happen in the meantime that will influence that expansion draft. Also, Hayes likely wouldn’t have signed without a NMC. I’m not a huge fan of them, but I understand why players ask for them and just see it as part of free agency. This talk of a NMC distracts from the fact that the team did just improve their 2C position.

So we shouldn’t better our team because we are concerned about the one player we will lose when our protected list goes in.....all righty then.

You don't plan to lose a player. The expansion team gets the choice. What a shrewd expansion GM does is say okay, you don't want me to choose young player A and want me to take Voracek, what are you going to give me to do that?

You guys pan mjl for years for being a yes man who agrees with everything the flyers do. He disagrees with something and provides a rational basis for it and he still gets skewered haha

You literally submit a protection list, which by definition means you have planned to lose a player

Don’t worry he can always just send them konecny so they take Lindblom instead of Voracek

Again the draft isn't tomorrow. There is no pressing "bind" that needs to be resolved right now.
- hereticpride

You’re going to lose a good player. There’s no way around it. If you want to be a good team then by default you’re going to lose something decent or pay through the nose not to do so. If the flyers (or any team for that matter) waltzes out of the expansion without a worry in the world, then you have bigger problems with where the team is currently at.

Umm, by giving Hayes a NMC, that means that someone else can't be protected. Look at the possibilities. We don't know what the roster will be but inevitably the Flyers will want to keep some players that they can't protect more than others. They will be forced to expose players they don't want to lose. The premise is what you can give the expansion team so they choose the player you want them to take.

I didn’t mean anyone individually. Haha you of all people you’re objectively one of the nicest people on here. Hell I don’t think it’s the greatest of deals either but it’s basically just what it costs to sign someone in a poor market. I just find it funny how the shoe is completely on the other foot.

It's kind of funny and sad at the same time. Soon they'll say he's on Team Negative.

No, that's YOUR premise. They're gonna lose somebody no matter what. I have absolutely NO IDEA what that roster is gonna look like in two years. None.

Guys get hurt and are forced to retire. Guys get traded. Guys ask for trades. Young players beat out veterans. Guys decline.

Kevin Hayes might be worth protecting. He might not be. But he's going to be, if he's still here, but we have NO IDEA what that is going to look like

JvR and Jake were probably gonna be exposed anyway in an 8-skater format.

Say they do trade Ghost... what did they trade him for? God forbid it's somebody else worth protecting.

You have to admit, being forced to protect 30-yo Kevin Hayes, who's likely gonna be the most expensive 3C in the league by then, is a little less than ideal.

But the subject cops say we aren't allowed to talk about it because its three years away. So kindly drop it please.

It's not my premise. It's a premise being discussed. LOL Multiple people have posted about giving the expansion team an asset to get them to take the player you want them to take. I didn't bring that part up. Get your facts straight.

The idea that we don't know what the roster will look like then is a given but that doesn't eliminate the issue. There is a history of what happens in that situation. Including with Fletcher when he was the GM of the Wild.

Would I have done it? I don't know. You know by now that I have no problems knocking stuff if I don't like it, but I don't know what Hayes is gonna look like, how he's gonna perform.

OK. Say it goes bad. Then we're screwed, and everybody can come on here and say we (frank)ed it up. It could be that.

But what if the guy actually does a good job? How is it that isn't one of the options?

He's good enough to do a good job for them. He plays both sides of the puck. I guess I actually need to see the guy play here before I say that two years from now, we are absolutely (frank)ed
