Why is everyone worrying about the expansion draft now? Flyer fill holes to improve the team and all the chatter is about the expansion draft. That will play itself out over the next year.
Let’s get excited the team is better than it was last year on paper. Get the RFAs signed and maybe another top 9 player.

You are assuming the players are going to be good. We are going to protect AT LEAST out top 3 D which IMO is going to be Provorov and Sanheim and either Myers or Morin.
Friedman, Myers and Morin are still rookies and chances are that only one of them is going to be a must keep. Ghost can always be traded. Exposing the extra player isnt going to have such a drastic effect. If Morin never gets healthy enough to play a full season problem is solved already. There is no guarantee these guys will be worth taking. A plan is good to have but GM's are not psychic, they cant predict what will happen in the next 2-3 years.
In 2010 we had a Stanley Cup finalist team, the next year we lost our #1 Dman to a career ending concussion and we ended up trading two of our core players away because of some internal issues. A lot can change between now and then.
And yes I remember Tuch and Theadore were sent to Vegas - xShoot4WarAmpsx
So you're just removing Gostisbehere from the equation. Morin as of now is not a player to worry about. The worse your situation is, the more vulnerable you are, the more leverage the expansion team has over you. Both in terms of who you have to expose or any cap issues you want them to help you with. There is no way around it that the Hayes contract puts the Flyers in a tougher post in regards to expansion. It's not going to catastrophic or franchise killing but to say it doesn't matter or that it doesn't change anything is simply not true.
The Wild lost Haula who turned into a 29 goal 55 point forward and Tuch who is now a blossoming 20 goal 50 point 23 year old forward. |

I doubt there will be any room left on the cap to get a top 9 player once all the RFA's are signed. |

As far as the expansion draft. This team could and most likely will look way different.
Learn from the LV draft. Just lose a player and move on. Nice to be good enough to lose more then a 4th liner. Just means the Flyers are relevant again. - peesinwind
Agree, take the loss and move on. |

lol! Work has been ridiculously overwhelming for the past few months. Insane. Just insane.
Been keeping my peripheral vision on the Flyers moves and every time I see one I think "oh geez, Bill's thread is going to blow up over this one" lol I saw 850 posts on this one and skipped right to the end. lol
I'm also pretty sure that the Blues winning the Cup sent a couple people here into unconsciousness - but for different reasons. I'm thinking about Berube and Schenn here. lol
Not digging that the Rangers got Trouba.
Bill mentions Ghost rumors. I haven't seen any but a trade involving him wouldn't surprise me at all. His skills and his contract make him a very attractive target. |

I hear you -- my job's been busy, too. I read still, watched the games, but I don't have the time to engage with these heathens like I have in years past.
This week's a little different because I took a little time off to read about draft prospects, stuff like that. It's been fun the last couple of days.
I was absolutely mature and didn't remind all the people I know were savages toward Chief. They know what they said. Glad he won. He deserved it

Ghost has elite offensive skill but leaves much to be desired defensively. If it becomes worst case scenario the option of dealing Ghost is always an option. |

And even then, It will have to pretty much be an even cap hit trade, or getting back a player with less cap hit.

Just because there is an option of trading a player doesn't mean you can just eliminate him from the expansion issue.

That's the move that, if it gets made, might make me pretty damn sour.
Ghost didn't have the best season last year. He's not Nicklas Lidstrom defensively.
But FFS, that contract is simply ridiculous value because you are getting a certain level of production that other guys simply cannot do. It baffles me that so many people are down on him -- not everybody is perfect defensively. He can get better, but he won't get better for you if you trade his arse before he has a chance to bounce back

So with the Hayes signing, that leaves the Flyers with $21,896,310 of Cap space based on the projected 83M upper limit. So taking a ball park stab at what the RFA's will cost. I think I'm being conservative here.
Hartman $1,000,000
Laughton $2,000,000
Konecny $4,500,000
Sanheim $3,500,000
Provorov $5,500,000
Back up G $2,000,000
$21,896,310 - $18,500,000 = 3,396,310 - MJL
I see the deals a little higher.
6.5 for Provorov and 5 million for Konecny.
I hope you are right and I am wrong.

There were so many great games this playoff season. The silver lining to your team not being in the playoffs is that you can just watch the games and enjoy them for the love of the game.
As for Berube, I'll just say that I guess he's better than some people thought.
I only root for one team, but the Blues winning is great. Their fans waited a long time. |
