The plumber that left the leak was Holmgren, not Hextall.

No Holmgren was the guy who placed the second mortgage on the house

This Holmgren hate is embarrassing. Hated the JvR for Schenn trade. Hated the Andrew MacDonald signing but the Vinny and Bryzgalov signings, everyone wanted until we didn’t anymore. Bryzgalov was also bought out for nothing, so no harm.
- SuperSchennBros

I think the team is STILL paying Bryz too...until something like 2025

In your opinion did Hextall do anything wrong during his time as GM?

I just am not sure about this at all. I thought that at 5 - 6 mil Hayes was a good addition. That extra million plus...yes, it makes a difference.

AND, never mind Cooter...what about Nolan Patrick. What if, please hockey gods, he has a big breakout season this year, in the final season of his entry deal. Then what?

It does put a lot of pressure on the Maple Leafs and Marner (hehehehe).

Really, I am more concerned about getting the RFA's done now. We can kiss fiscal moderation goodbye and having cap space to play with...but if we can keep the good young players, I will live with it.

Funny you should mention it, when you look at buyouts the name is there for many years with the $0 figure...since its not against the cap, but is how many million?

We could have nice lives with the interest only on his total buyout figure, right?

the Hayes signing should lead to some jokes about the time Hayes got caught defecating on his ex girl friends car... made for great interviews at the NHL combine in his draft year....ah to be young and foolish.

That offer wouldn't have come close to getting it done on July 1. Good thing they threw in the draft pick. Got a team friendly deal. Cost of doing business.

The GM hasn’t traded any player of significance, any top prospect, or their top pick. The sky is falling it seems

Because Flyersbuzz GM's understand how to run a team, cap implications and draft value better than the people getting paid to do it.

Hayes was always getting 7 years and 6.5 from someone. Why would he give a team friendly deal?

The deal is what the market is; we can debate whether or not the flyers should have signed him though

Welcome to Philly! 1 year and $500,000 more than I would have liked but Hayes was part of Fletcher's plan and he got him. Now on to wing, backup goalie, and replenishing draft picks.

We knew we would be losing players/prospects to improve the team. Thus far the GM has only sacrificed Gudas, a 2nd round, and fifth round (3rd in 2020) while improving the team. Correct we have to see it on the ice but nice work.

Now the hard part. Trading an NHL player (Ghost, Hagg, ??) For the rest of the missing pieces.

There is always risk on the back end of a contract like this...I agree Hayes would have been able to squeeze out a better deal with multiple teams bidding...the pick got Fletcher the guy he wanted and avoided true insanity on July 1st...upgrade at center and sound 2 way play was going to cost money or a haul of picks and young talent...Fletcher had to pick his poison...

The RFA's are going to be between 20-23 million to resign.

Provy at least 6 (prob more)
Konecny at least 5
Sanheim at least 3.5
Laughton at least 3
Hartman at least 2.5

That comes to 20 right there, and that is on the low ball end. Maybe I am over estimating what Laughton will get. But I also thing Sanheim could get 4.

Plus they need to sign a backup goalie which will be another 2-3.

No. We had a GM that knew how to team build properly in the salary cap era.

We’ve tried this method before. Flyers fans in particular should be very familiar with how all of this is going to play out.

I guess what’s shocking to me right now is the number of fans that have taken the bait, hook line and sinker.

I was on the fence for Bryzgalov. I didnt want him but wasnt overly upset we got him. I didnt believe he was as bad as people act like he was. He was a good goalie who was paid as an elite goalie.

The combination of Hayes, Niskanen, Braun, Gudas retention, and MacDonald buyout ($18.87m) now nearly equals the Marchand / Bergeron / Pastrnak AAV ($19.67m) almost exactly.

Your numbers are too high. We are talking guys coming off entry level deals that didnt blow people out of the water. We arent talking about a guy like Marner who got 90+ points

Konecny will get 3-4 mill
Laughton will get no more than Raffl and the same goes with Hartman
Provorov may get 5 mill
Sanheim will get 3 at most

Gudas and Braun are gone after this season so it is moot. Braun can be dealt this season as well if he isnt needed.

If Hayes thinks he could have done better, why didn't he wait until July 1 and let the offers come pouring in?
