I meant a lower cap than what the league wants. - StLBravesFan
I think they should go onto to some kind of performance based salary system. You have 2 caps; 1 for playoff teams and another for non-playoff teams. Kind of like the current system. Hard cap for playoff teams and the floor cap for non-playoff teams.
Players get paid based on their individual performance. Your best player like Kane would get 10 mil and staggered amounts there after.

Can they win Cup w/Dinky/Strome and though asking for Risto,
Mittlestadt and the number 7 are what makes the trade worth it.
Imagine getting 3 good picks from this draft maybe 4 that can
play in 2 years, still in 19-88 and maybe 2-50 window.
Risto might grow w say Keith/Matta/Joki as partner and w/Byram
maybe Boquist and next years D and forwards would look pretty
good.
Yes a lot of if's but why not. - gazza53
Why not? Because for one you are giving up the two best players in the trade by far. For a guy who you hope unlocks some hidden potential that 4 other coaches couldn't. The other 3 pieces are complete unknowns.

From my point of view, precisely because there are so many “ifs”. You are trading away one sure thing (ADB), and one guy who has had success in the current system, for a guy with a worse track record than Strome, and a D-man who is not all that useful defensively.
All you get out of any draft (outside of occasionally the #1 pick) is potential. I think people put way too much stock in immediate or near term returns from draft picks. I don’t have any desire to hitch my wagon to potential. Nor am I all that interested in having a team with as many reclamation projects as true slotted players.
1-2 projects fine. Outside of that “show me, don’t tell me”. - Chunk

Who is helped by delaying cap announcement?
Who is hurt by delaying cap announcement?
Answer those questions and you will know why.
Could be something as stupid as not wanting trades to distract from the draft hype. - Return of the Roar

4 different coaches and 2 different GMs have thought they can get more out of Risto. Risto is a PP specialist that isn't vg in his own zone. Hard pass for me.
The cap is going up. What is being reported is the next two year might see smaller increases than originally thought. They have room for Strome and Dinky. - Elbows15
In fairness to Risto, the talent around him is limited to nonexistant after Eichel and Skinner.
But to your point, Connor Murphy isnt significantly different to Risto and he is at a much lower price point. |

First - to agree on the Byram choice.
It’s very difficult to find a true top-line center - but even harder to pick up a potential Norris guy.
A long way to go before Byram gets into the final three for that award - if ever - but the reports ive read tell me that he has the best possible upside of any of the five noted. - StLBravesFan
There is no chance in my mind they don't take Bowen Byram. Kings scouts say he is in the Doughty category and a defenseman like him hasn't come along in 20 years in the WHL. Wow...we hit paydirt |

Spoke to Philco today........
He really wants Bowen Byram. Says he is a wizard with the puck like Kane.

If there is any credible consensus truth in the scouting community to this, why wouldn’t NJ or NYR pick him? |

59, Dach is an elite skater and that is at 6ft 4in. He does not have straight ahead breakaway speed but can change direction on a dime, guess the new phrase is 360 degree skating ability. .......... No doubt some NHL organIzations have him as the 3rd best player in this draft and they just might be right. Problem has been consistency.
Pick a link and watch this kid skate, his size and hands. A freak: https://www.youtube.com/r...s?search_query=kirby+dach - Mr Ricochet
Thank you for the information. I was going.off scouting reports which did not elaborate or break it down like you did. While it is difficult to pass on the skill of Zegrass, add Dach with Cozens and Turcotte to the top forwards after the top two picks. Even Podlolzin is going to be a good choice. What a draft. |

Turcotte just oozes that Chicago confidence that I could easily envision Stan/Kelley falling in love with.
It just looks too obvious of a pick. Can already picture him in an Indian-head sweater on Friday talking about how excited he is to get to work with some of his childhood idols.
With that being said - please pick Byram.
As a side note, Cozens looks so uncomfortable. I get that these are kids, but Kane and Toews were definitely more confident. |

Thing is, tho. Almost everyone who has played with Risto is better away from him. |

Is bowen being touted in this draft class because the defense class is average at best or is he that good that should the question. Maybe wiz answer that question better. To me there is just handful of good defense in this draft i could be wrong and if that is the case bowen is the best out handful plus his defense zone play is average at best or worse. |
