Regarding the what to pay Strome/Debrincat duo, the Hawks will have about $30 mill for 13 roster spots. If the duo gets ~$15 mill, that means the other half of the remaining budget for 11 spots. Crow and Gus are also up for renewal next summer. It will be very interesting to see how they manage this situation.

Given the current state of the market if ADB/Strome have good seasons again they will be lucky to be able to sign just them for under $16MM.

Then who replaces CC and AA?

- Return of the Roar

That isn't too bad all things considered. I know it isn't 100% apples to apples here, but back in 2009, Kane/Toews signed new deals that took effect in the 2010-11 season, when the cap was 59.4 million. They cost the Hawks 12.6 million or just over 21% of their cap space. If we ballpark the salary cap for 20-21 at 85 mil, then 16 million would be about 18.8% of the Hawks cap. I'm not saying these guys will be 100% the same players as Toews and Kane but for a good young duo that could be the future offensive leaders for the team, it isn't too crazy.

Given what’s gone down recently, I’d bet some GM is going to sign Perry for more $/term than any of us would expect.
- Chief4Feathers

Yep. He could sign for silly dollar and term. He is a Bruin type of player.

And Hayes went from entry level 2yrs 900k, to a 2yr 2.6 per, to a 1yr 5mil, to now this UFA 7mil per overpayment.

He also helped his team reach the playoffs in 4 of his 5 yrs (well, 3 of 5...dint help WINN get there)

So he took bridge deals in his 3 RFA years.

Was that him or his brother - I always forget?

There was a funny story recently about the 2010 NHL combine where one prospect had taken a dump on his girlfriends car. Every team that interviewed him asked him about it - to the point where the prospect just started bringing it up at the beginning of his meetings. “You want to know about whether I crapped on my girlfriend’s car? Yes, I did.”

Its going to be Alex Turcotte.

-Bowman had a dream the night before the lottery that he would get the 3rd pick. If the pattern continues it must be the Toews doppelganger

-Mark Kelley will always take an American over a Canadian in a tie

-Hes a hometown boy.

-They picked the 4horsemen already. 5th horseman?

-Chi boy Alex Turcotte goes to Colorado? No way.

In '86 Olczyk admitted the pressure got to him in Chicago. In this day and age amp that up 100x.

I want Bowen Byram. The Canucklead that you can go "Bohhhh!!!" as he scores a goal.

But that aint happening.

I have as many playoff appearances and points as ABD and Strome combined....so yeah, let's pay them 8mil each while people piss and moan about Seabrook or Saad's contracts

If they want 8mil, they can enjoy the view from their apartments. If they want to...oh I dont know, help the team actually win again. Then they will take a bridge deal and cash in when they help the team become a threat again.

- PatShart

It doesn't matter what you, or I, or the Hawks want....it's what the player, agent, and market bears. Why would AD pass up maximizing dollars and who is going to take less money on less term? That's just ridiculous. DeBrincat has proven himself to be a top line, productive NHL player....Strome? I am with you.....I wouldn't go any higher then 4.5 TODAY but I think the Hawks will wait and see if he can continue his pace.

It's about ROI......Seabrook and Saad aren't giving you the ROI you need for the money the Hawks are paying them.....Seabrook is being rewarded for past years, and Saad hasn't sniffed the player he was in the Cup final in 2015 since he got his money from Columbus.....if he was, no way Columbus would have traded him back here.

Unless Strome has a MONSTER year.....close to what Toews put up this year.....if Bowman pays him 7.5-8 AAV he should be fired before the ink dries.

He already did that years ago. Still paying for it to this day. Hopefully the on the job training taught him some things.
- Return of the Roar

Oh please... Stan on his worst day didn’t commit the kind of bs we’ve recently seen. The guy has made some mistakes, but he kept a core rolling along that won 3 Cups in five years.

I agree. The playoffs are where some guys shine and others wilt. I have no problem paying Strom-a-Cat their due - but I’d like to have the confidence that these boys will bring it when the second season starts.

Debrincat has played in the league 2 yrs. Is a good goal scoring winger, not very good defensively.

Jordan Eberle is very similar to him...especially early in his career - and didnt have the talent like a Kane to play with. I wouldn't have given Eberle 8mil then (or now) and certainly dont think ABD is worth it when he will be 3 years in without any playoff appearances or team success

Surprise, surprise, surprise you invented a new reason for Bowman to be fired.

I'm confident Bowman will give ADB and Strome what their market value dictates. Other than the terrible Seabrook contract I can't see Bowman has written up many bad contracts. What is it about Bowman that irritates you?

Latest from Barstool Chief (he saw this and posted it):

Hawks take Byram at #3

Hawks trade Boqvist, Krys, & maybe a sweetener to DET for #6. Hawks take either Zegras/Turcotte DET gets Boqvist who would be #2 Dman in this draft

Don't see that being realistic IMHO

If the Duck's are buying out Corey Perry, I would ask what kind of deal he is looking for. Coming off an injury and a down year he could be a value pickup at a reasonable price and fairly short term. $4.5 mil for 3 years? My guess is that he will work himself back into top shape and have a chip on his shoulder. Maybe 50+ points playing on one of the top 2 lines, or an absolute beast playing on the 3rd or 4th lines. He would immediately make the Hawks harder to play against.

Saad - Toews - Perry
ADB - Strome - Kane
Kubalik - (AA or his replacement) - Sikura/Perlini
Caggiula - Kampf - Tanev/Frolik (or Tanev like)

- -Doh-

The whole point of signing someone who’s been bought out is to get them dirt cheap because they’re still getting paid by their previous team and now they’re just double dipping on $. Anyone pays him more than $1.0 x 2 is an idiot.

Bickell deal wasn't bad?

So you are OK if Bowman signs Strome for 7.5-8 AAV?

Has Strome signed for $8M?

Would the Bickell deal have been a good signing if he didn't have MS?

You do realize he's going to get more then 1 million for 2 years, right?

SO I guess every GM in hockey is an idiot...….

I dont' want Perry. He's broken down. Move along.

I would like another veteran D man who could slide into the top 4 and not be a liability but would be a HUGE asset in the bottom pairing. No clue who that said somebody is, but that's my wish.

I said if Bowman signed Strome for 7.5-8 million as the previous poster had said if Bowman signs Strome and AD for 15 million combined...….nice try though trying to spin it.

Yes, it was bad because he could have had Bickell A LOT cheaper mid season but decided to wait and then got raked over the coals when Bickell was a beast in the 2013 playoffs......and I wasn't the largest Teuvo fan, but having to give up Teuvo on top of Bickell to shed that deal.....yeah, Paul.....it was a BAD deal.

Think there is a chance Stan tries to buy low on Mike Hoffman? If Dale is looking to go after the Russian Duo, he may need cap room
