No, we're going to play close attention to what happened last year - the offence disappeared for a big stretch at the beginning of March, and then again in the playoffs. Yes, they scored an overwhelming number of goals during the regular season when the top line was able to free wheel a lot more, but when play tightened up in March and April, they were decidedly less effective as a team. Look at any game vs a quality team in the last month and a half of the season and tell me they were scoring in bunches...
Can't remember who said it, but some guys get you there, other guys get you through. Flames needed some guys to help get them through, and scoring depth, size and speed were the types of players that would have helped get that done. - rmull905
They scored the fifth most goals in the league in March. The only months they weren't in the top five was February and November. Goal scoring wasn't an issue for the team last year.
In the last month, they scored 5 against San Jose, 6 against Vegas, and 4 against Columbus. Not to mention the 7 and 9 spots they put up. |

Ugh, yes. And they had a 8 game stretch where they scored 2 goals or less 7 times.
7 and 9 goal games were also against two of the worst teams in the NHL... Not saying that they didn't score a lot of goals, I'm saying they disappeared at times, so the playoffs were not an anomaly... |

Flames fam!
I'm picking for the Flames in Jan Levines mock draft, and I have to say, I haven't watch all that many Flames games the past year other than the playoffs. My initial thought was to go best player available, but I figured I'd reach out to field some opinions.
What is the biggest need in the prospect pool for the Flames? Just from roster looking, it seems picking a dman would be the wrong pick. How does the center cupboard look? How about goalie?
Thanks everyone! |

If you ask me a RW that can play a power game.
But most will say BPA.

Given that this pick is likely 2-3 years away from playing for the Flames take the best player available. If Spencer Knight is there he is the pick. |

I agree. If there is a stud goalie there, pick him. The Flames biggest need IMO. The only thing that worries me is if he's going to play college. |

If Knight is there, I wouldn't object. Otherwise, pick for me is still Leason. Like it more after listening to the boys on the Fan today who were talking about what elevated his game this year (commitment to fitness). Given what Gio's done for Ras' fitness levels, imagine pushing a 6'4" power winger to the next level... |

BPA
Whoever they pick won’t be playing anytime soon so get the most talent so you can either have a good player ready to step in or the best asset to trade if need be

I agree 100% with this:
1) Spencer Knight
2) BPA
3) If BPA is tied between several positions - choose the forward - preferably RW

The other thing that's out there is Gio is probably going to win the Norris tonight. Is BT going to trade away his long time partner who helped him get there ? I just can't see that happening. If Gio gives a shout out to Brodie tonight, I think all talk of trading Brodie is done. - tincup
Brodie didn't do poop to help Gio win the norris, Gio carried Brodie just like he carries all his D partners. You could put roman polak with him and he'd still be a beast |

Basically everyone is saying 20-55 will all come down to team preference, there isn't any one guy who stands above the others. Few mock drafts have Knight going to FLA - I think that's highly dependent on whether they sign Bob or not. If they have a strong sense that deal gets done, I'm betting it's Kaliyev there. |
