"His analytics are bad" Well it's because he had to play 27 minutes a night getting 58% of DZ starts and was on the worst team in the entire NHL 3 of those years and faced every team's top line over and over.

Yet his Corsi has actually gotten better each of the last 3 years.


The analytics GOD AND GOAT Mark Pysyk is barely a 6/7 for FL playing against the likes of every team's Zemgus/Larson/Sobotka lines.

All analytics require context. Each stat is only a piece of the puzzle. Even without analytics, just watching Risto, watching every goal in the Sabres net and he's standing there with a dumb look on his face..

I don't believe that. No one knows, but not only do I believe Nylander is more skilled, I believe he is much smarter on the ice than Jesse.

His IQ is seen as one of the sole reasons he hasn't become a mainstay.

A valid point for sure, as long as the player being offered for that pick isn't worth more than the pick itself. 4 years ago, it was rushing the rebuild. Today, it's time to (frank)ing win.

I believe that he is a vital piece of the defensive puzzle. Do I think he will win a Norris... no. Do I think he will ever be questioned as a top 10 Dman in the NHL no. Do I think he is a cornerstone 2 way complete player... no.

But what I do think is that he is a vital piece of the defensive corps depth. He is paid as the 44th Dman in the NHL but his PPG is 22nd among dmen.

I honestly think that Risto can be what a Hjalmarsson was for Chicago. He can be that 2nd/3rd wheel guy who is def above average but not your cornerstone. I see every contending NHL team have 3 above average Dmen and just because we have Dahlin and Montour it does not make Risto expendable. It would set us back leaning on a Nelson/McCabe/Pilut to play those minutes.

At one point he had a higher g/60 and s/60 than McDavid

I don't think Nylander is the higher skilled of the two, if he was he would have been drafted higher
