It’s all dependent on signing Panarin. We need to get Shattenkirk out of here ASAP. I can’t imagine if we retained 2 million a team wouldn’t want him for a 3rd round pick.

I have no doubt the Rangers will have the NMC on Trouba, I hope it helps keep AAV down
- jimbro83

Thats why I think they give him the 1st 3 years, and a limited for the rest

If we miss on Panarin I’m fine with it, no other UFA’s I like.

Hypothetically, if they were to miss on Panarin and have the right amount of cap space, how could you be againt 1 year buyout of Patrick Marleau. If it netted the Rangers Kapanen or Johnsson.

Makes no sense James.

Kevin Hayes received a full no-move clause for the first three years of his deal with #Flyers - which offers expansion draft protection - and a 12-team limited no-trade clause for the remaining years.

it's fantasy, absolute fantasy that the Rangers would trade for a player, buy him out and pay 6 million dollars so he can play for another team.

It would never happen

It's 1 year. What the point of having cap space if you're not gonna use it. "If you don't use it, you lose it."

why wouldn't you want to use it on Kakko and Kravstov hitting their entry level bonuses?

you guys assume their entry level deals stay at 875K for the whole year but they can go all the way up to 3.75 mil if they do as well as we hope (well not you)

This was my view in the comments after the Trouba trade (updated slightly):

Cap Friendly:
PROJECTED CAP HIT : $63,963,609
PROJECTED LTIR USED : $0
PROJECTED CAP SPACE : $19,036,391

CURRENT CAP SPACE : $19,036,391
TODAYS CAP HIT : $63,963,609

To be signed: Trouba, Buchnevich, Lemieux, Claesson and DeAngelo. If bridge Buch, Lemieux and ADA, estimate around $5.5 plus or more (maybe up to $7 mil). Trouba will be in the $6-7 mil range if only one season and no LT extension is signed. That's conservatively 11.5 million and probably more, leaving around 5-7 mil or so.

Figure Beleskey gets buried in the minors, saving about a million. Vesey (2.275 mil), Namestnikov (4 mil) and Strome (3.1 mil) are all at risk. Shattenkirk (6.65 mil) and Smith (4.35 mil) are buyout candidates. NY would need to clear about 5-6 mil to be safe in order to afford Panarin or others.

- airjan23

Trouba alone will command $7.5M to $8.5M for likely 7 years, when comparing his value to the salaries of the other top paid defensemen.

Excluding the top 3 annually paid d'men in Karlsson ($11.5), Doughty ($11M), and Subban ($9M), there are 10 d'men immediately below Subban's $9M, who are earning annually between $7M to $8.25M in ascending order:

Vlasic ($7M) ... Letang ($7.25M) ... Ekblad ($7.5M) ... Suter ($7.53M) ... Bfuglien ($7.6M) ... Weber ($7.85M) ... Hedman ($7.87M) ... Burns ($8M) ... Carlson ($8M) ... Ekman-Larsson ($8.25M)

Also to consider are this year's next 3 top ranked & current potential UFA d'men:
Myers ($5.5M expiring), Edler ($5.25M expiring) & Gardiner ($4.05M)

So the supply is low in a highly demanded for, top defensemen's market, making it critical for Gorton to get Trouba locked up, with his $5.5M due to expire after next June. That makes it a must in buying out Shatty &/or Smith, and then extending Kreider, prior to considering Panarin, should rumors by Friedman and many others believe will be Florida bound.

Who’s more reliable, Dreger or Friedman? Cuz dreger said he’s fairly confident Panarin will be a Ranger.
