That's fine, and I was for LE more than Lucic who really was the only alternative to possibly sign here at the time. However, I was strongly against either one.
You don't sign UFA's at the beginning of a rebuild, it's counter productive. - golfingsince

Loui(at the time) was the best UFA available, and his deal has technically been better for us than Ladd for NYI, Okposo for Buff, Lucic for EDM. - Retinalz
So he’s the best piece of poop that signed a deal that year? Hurray for Benning.
You know what would be better than being the best of the looser crowd? Not being a looser. |

True but at that time my guess was FA wasn’t on the rebuild train. Times have changed. |

The looser GM crowd has large company.
Cannot think of one GM who hasn’t screwed up. |

Nice to see the Edler deal was only 2 years. If term was the battle... very well done then. Battle won. If expansion protection was the battle... also a win. Edler's threat to walk really didnt have much leverage... looks like Edler took the take it or leave it final offer. - boonerbuck
2 years at 12 mil is perfect for Edler's retirement as we will probably only see him for 70 games combined both seasons until he's done from here on out. We win...but Edler wins too. |

Here’s my idea. Don’t do something stupid. Don’t trade away players you have spent years investing in looking for a quick fix. This team is not going to be a contender next year, don’t pretend that adding a top 4 D and a top 6 winger will put you in that category.
Also, don’t be so naive that any team is going to give up the piece you desperately want for peanuts.
Top pairing 60 point defender is going to cost you a first, a quality prospect and a good player at a minimum. If you want to swap firsts, add another part. - 1970vintage
It's what we need at this point. Now I agree don't get too crazy but we can acquire a RHD and a winger for Bo and it doesn't need to be top 4 D or a top 6 winger. But it would be nice lol |

Edlers agent said they signed the deal at 3 AM this morning and hinted this might not be Edlers final deal with the Canucks

That was one of the predicted problems of resigning the Sedins to a long deal. The owner was going to stay the course right to the end of the contract by retooling around the twins. LE was a dumb addition to the Sedin plan.
Why would people think FA would commit to a tear down or sit on his hands after the investment? They were two unmovable contracts pushing the rebuild further down the road the moment ink was on paper. |

Signing Edler to a 2 year contract and rumoured to have kicked Loui off the team, is a fantastic start to the off-season, in my books. |

Another thing I like about the 2 year deal is we get the contract year effort sooner than later.

I think Johnny Cash was my very first listen as a wee one. Always a big fan of the Clash (we saw them open for The Who in Seattle) and saw Joe Strummer playing with The Pogues twice.
This version needs a fat indica cone and a nice scotch to fully enjoy it. |
