For a two season contract followed by UFA status?
I'd rather try and sign Gardiner with the owners money and keep the pick and Jake. - boonerbuck
Exactly. It’s that the benefit of having loads of cap space heading into free agency? You aren’t forced to trade assets to get marginally better. |

You have to help me out... so why are the Avs trading Barrie now? Does he want out?
He’s signed through this year. I think Avs might get something better at the trade deadline no? - bloatedmosquito
My guess is they don’t think they can afford to pay him $8MM per after this season. Other reason. Cale (frank)ing Makar is legit and ready |

No it’s one season. And they won’t make the trade unless they agree on an extension. Colorado can grant permission to speak w him |

Man oh man, Tyson would be a nice trading chip at the deadline. If healthy. I think Joe could get a boatload for him then. |

Marginally better? Youre kidding right?
Who do you think will have more impact on a game - Virtanen or Barrie? Pretty easy answer. I'll take the guy who plays 25 mins a night and runs a PP over a 14 min 3rd liner.
Imagine......
Edler/Barrie
Hughes/Stecher
Gardiner/Schenn
Is that a) marginally better than now or b) (frank)in pound your mother in the ass awesome?
Obviously B, but I'd spit on my cock for lube because I think youre a good guy, so I'll treat her like a lady..... |

I’m not disputing Barrie’s skill set. Love to have him on the team. But not at the expense of a first round pick and a lack of depth to support.
Your D roster above is nice and all but again you’re hoping Barrie comes with Gardiner. It’s not about one or two great players, for me, it’s about building depth in the position. Can you replace a player who’s fallen to injury with something resembling an NHL dman?
Answer is still no with or without Barrie.

My thoughts would be that MacEwen comes in for Virtanen. I think that the writing is on the wall for Barrie...he will be a Canuck. A 1st and Virtanen isnt a tonne to pay.
If you add Gardiner and say they do, I think you have a very mobile, quick defence that gets the puck out and feeds your forwards........MORE GOALS = Playoff team.
Gotta take a chance here boys. Its not a bad trade at all. |

I think it’s poop. You don’t trade next years first. After that, go crazy. Make your pick this year and next. Reassess your prospect pool then and if healthy start to wheel and deal. Too early right now. |

If he is re-signed, better then. Would give JB a year to pick up a 1st rounder as replacement in the draft. Also, bye bye Tanev for an asset if Barrie is picked up.
Avs are looking for toughness up front it is rumoured. Maybe they reach a ways on Jake. Van would just keep getting softer and lighter... not a fan of that.
