"Scouts say Hughes' speed has become an issue, as he frequently leaves teammates in the dust while torching opposing defenders"

Other than his size? Like what?
- eichiefs9

Have u ever heard of ppl saying the #1 overall pick could benefit by not playing his first year to add size and strength? That was said about Hughes multiple times. How about, “we think Kakko will make a more immediate impact but eventually Hughes will be the better player.” Those are red flags. Despite his size no one ever said that about Kane.

Show me. Teach me something. Because I genuinely haven’t seen it. Really not trying to start an argument.

There's been a mention here or there about him maybe taking a year to put on some mass because he's got a slight frame, but it's really irrelevant as far as his evaluations should go. It's not something anyone should be even the slightest bit concerned about.

This was the 2nd article that popped up. There’s a bunch more but on draft day all the articles aren’t talking about that. Do some digging, they’re everywhere.

I'm pretty sure I've heard it before, yes. Can't recall with who but this isn't the first time it's ever been said

Even if the answer was no, how is "he'll eventually be the best player from this draft" a negative thing for you? Not every kid comes flying out of the gate. He's got a slight frame that needs some weight, that's really not a big deal. Not something anyone should consider a red flag.

everything in that article is talking about what people were saying in January though

he was still 17, turned 18 in May and I dont think anyone has any of those concerns anymore

Lol did you read the article? It's about how that argument is bogus.

I’ll admit, that’s the first time I’m seeing something like that. Probably because it’s a stupid argument.

You can't really claim that "it's all over" and then not produce any evidence because you don't want to look

It's nitpicking over minutia, the same thing that happens every year with the top pick or two. Hughes has a slight frame, yes. You're not drafting these kids for the next season, you're investing in them for the next 10+ years. If he needs a year to bulk up that's not a concern. It's a minor knock on him that no team is going to make their decisions based off of.

Haha, no worries. I’m high on Grewe. Love what he brings. I don’t think he’ll fall to our first second round pick.

Sure, it was a question raised by a few people in the middle of the season. That doesn't make it an issue.

if we actually had the first overall pick, the debate would of Hughes vs Kakko would have been something

from what I've seen of Devils fans, I think they've been like 95% in favor that they want to take Hughes

I think if we had been in same position it would have been about 50/50

Whichever we get I’ll be happy, I’d just prefer Kakko

MOVING ON....

What kind of deals do we think happen today? Is it all hype or is this going to be a fun one?

Could be an interesting day now that GM's know the salary cap is going to be lower than expected. Might force a few teams to make moves, notably SJ and TB.

Even though it's humid AF here, I have my Hank 2012 WC jersey laid out getting stoked for tonight. Already have the shot of Patron on deck too.

Pretty impressive that he was able to play two playoff games right before his back was apparently so bad that he needed to be put on LTIR and also right before Tampa needed cap space...
