Carolina could be interesting. I keep seeing them looking at scorers. Would they take a guy like van Riemsdyk? Could you do something big like Gostisbehere and van Riemsdyk to Carolina for Pesce, #28, #37.

Again just talking out loud. Trying to make the day go by.

I just don't think trading Ghost right now is a good idea unless you're getting an impact player. I really think, if they trade him, they'll be kicking themselves for years.

I assume if Ghost were traded for Ehlers WPG would keep some Cap, 1 mill at best.

Playoff wise they both havent really produced. Ghost has 3 points in 12 games over 2 playoff seasons which is 0.25 points per game. Ehlers has 7 points in 21 games over 2 Playoff seasons at a 0.33 points per game.

I wouldnt mind it but Fletcher has to make it all fit under the cap with flexibility to sign guys that are RFA the next few seasons. We cant just keep counting on the cap to go up. Im sure it will with Seattle but at some point it has to hit its limit.

Yes, but is he an impact player?

Also, IF they trade Ghost, which I'm still against, it should be for a forward as they currently have a logjam at D. But not Ehlers.

It would need to be a legit top 6 forward. Preferably RW if moving Ghost was to go down.

In my hypothetical with Carolina, van Riemsdyk would be moved opening cap space while also getting another 1st rounder where maybe you can make a deal. Like now you have a 1st rounder to move to Toronto for Kapanen where they don't need to take on cap.

Just a thought

I really like Alex Newhook, partially because it's an awesome name. But the fact that he played in the BCHL is a bit worrying. How does that compare to the CHL?
- jmatchett383

Its not on the same level as the CHL at all. I think the fact the Flyers took Obrien after he lit up a lesser Jr. hockey league might give them pause, considering his darft+1 year. Then again the final decision maker is different.

Exactly what I see. I mean, I would do Ghost 1-for-1 for Kapanen, but that's not gonna happen without us taking more salary back, and no thanks. If they could somehow get Arvidsson out of Nashville I'd be ecstatic, but they'd have to add.

Well, it was a prep. school known for its hockey. It's not like he's playing the kids from the local Philly catholic schools.

I think we can all agree that Pesci's finest acting was as PI Leo Getz in Lethal Weapon IV.

I would have said Lethal Weapon III, but some things, you just don't joke about.

To Carolina: van Riemsdyk, Gostisbehere, Connor Brown

To Philadelphia: Kapanen, Carolina 2nd rounder(36), Brett Pesce

To Toronto: Carolina 1st rounder(28), Hagg

Does it work?

I not so sure they have to add to do Kapanen for Ghost. Toronto is desperate for cap space and actual insiders had Carolina and Toronto discussing a Kapanen + Brown for Pesce deal and Carolina was the ones who balked at it, so who knows... I do think Ghost is gonna be dealt

A significant step down but it's not unheard of for players drafted from that level -- e.g. Kyle Turris going 3rd overall in 2007 -- to be taken early and have good pro careers. The ultimate example is Jamie Benn (5th rounder in that same 2007 Draft).

Newhook played quite well at the Under-18 Worlds, so it's not like he's never played against higher-grade competition and succeeded. Also, the players in the BCHL are often older on average than the CHL average age -- many junior A players are using it is a springboard to college hockey in the NCAA or Canada. Although the skill level of the league is lower, a player such as Newhook does get to compete more often against competition that's more physically mature.

That would leave us with no 7th dman, who we'd need to sign in addition to our RFAs and backup goalie.

Not sure its works for Toronto, but Carolina and Philly are happy.
Why have I seen so many thoughts to trade JVR, if I was including a forward to help the cap situation it would be Jake

We’ve got wingers coming. Especially if you consider frost one. Next to no dmen in the system and ghost on a good contract with the recent defensive dmen acquisitions. We need to hold onto him

Fletcher mentioned laughton to fill that 3rd line. I’m ok with that. How about filpulla for 1 year at 4C? I’m ok with that

Morin is your 7.

Provorov - Niskanen
Braun - Sanheim
Pesce - Myers

After next year Braun is gone and Pesce or Myers move into top 4. Or maybe for the last year of his deal Niskanen slides to 3rd pair and both slide into top 4

Because everyone complains when I say I would move Voracek.
