Bob McKenzie says the cap could be as low as $81.5m. If Provorov gets $8m, that would be ridiculous given his past season struggles and the fact he has only completed 3 of the 7 years required to become a free agent. But it could also put the Flyers in a real cap crunch with $14.5m left to sign Sanheim, Konency, Laughton, Hartman, and a veteran backup goalie and two more forwards just to get to 23 players (13 F, 8D, 2 G).
ROSTER SIZE 16 (Schlemko and Lyon demoted)
SALARY CAP $81,500,000
CAP HIT $66,957,579
CAP SPACE $14,542,421
Of course there are always moves you can make. If you keep Lyon as the backup goalie, you can save $2m or more. Trade Hartman for a pick and replace him with a prospect saves you $1m. But these are not moves that are aimed at making the team better. Just at being cap compliant.
Then in 19-20 the only contracts coming off the books are Braun and Schlemko which will only free up $4,825,000 in space. But Fletcher will need to sign Lindblom, Patrick, Hagg and Myers. Assuming they are are still Flyers. |

Let’s get real. Provorov is not getting close to 8. Maybe close to 7 long term. Maybe a little over. Around 6 if he takes a bridge |

Dubas came out yesterday, It looks likely he'll be a leaf next season. So, basically nobody wants that deal 😂😂 - nonpoint22
If someone offer sheets marner they could be screwed. |

Assuming Marner signs the offer sheet. People always seem to forget that the player has to accept it. |

You could sure. Or you could do it as the year goes on. Farabee I think will surprise in camp. The kid is ahead of where konecny was when he stuck. |

i believe they go undrafted and then don't get a contract. Like I beleive Zemula would have went back into the draft if the Flyers didn't sign him. - J35Bacher
wonder where Zemula would be drafted this year? |

I really like Alex Newhook, partially because it's an awesome name. But the fact that he played in the BCHL is a bit worrying. How does that compare to the CHL? - jmatchett383
It's like the B-grade version of the CHL. |

It's around the same level as the Q. It's '2nd-tier' but there are still a lot of good players there. |

I'd rather just let Raffl play center on a 4th line then - J35Bacher
Hartman is an actual RW so I'd have him on the 3rd line and Laughton at 4C given the current roster. No need to go out and sign an old guy to play 4C. |

I agree, but apparently $8m is what his camp is demanding. So I don't see that deal getting done till September.
Gotta see what this guy gets...

Yeah but the notion that if someone offers him the "close to Auston Matthews money" his camp desires that he will turn it down based on the fact he's a good ole Canadian boy and leads fan. The players association would have something to say about that as well. |

I still believe the Braun trade is an indictment on the performance of Hagg and to a lesser extent Morin. I hope I m not proven wrong tonight.
Also, I think they want Talbot back as the back up, but my guess is below 2 million. |

Filpulla 30+ points last year. When has raffl played center last? It doesn’t have to be filpulla but a one year stopgap at 4C
Raffl should not have been resigned.
Acciari would also interest me at 4c - Just5
Re-signing Raffl was a no brainer.

Not that they will but at the deal Raffl signed, they can bury almost the whole contract if they want or need to i believe.

The Flyers see Braun as a top 4 RH defenseman. They see Haag and Morin as 3rd pair defenseman.

The fact that they didn't ice Morin until they were mathematically eliminated seemed to say a lot too. |

Like he was coming off injuries and wanted to make sure he was completely healed before trying to send him out there and also up to closer to game shape. |

I wouldnt read much into that as they couldn't afford to just throw him in the lineup after that long a layoff as trying to make the playoffs. Not fair to him or the team |

Dunno, Hagg improved across the board in terms of points, blocks, hits, etc, even tho he saw less ice time. I can't imagine they're too disappointed with his 2nd season.
Morin was always a wildcard. |
