Yeah, I'm a little skeptical. I mean I'm sure they'll be fine pros, but their stats have to be a little inflated.
- Neomike77

Debrincat played with McDavid and Strome in Erie. Perhaps his stats were a bit inflated but it still takes skill to put the puck in the net as often as Caufield did.

Didn't realize our cupboard was bare . Are we not set here?
- Daceroni

Our top D not in the NHL is probably Friedman those still still not in the AHL are all question marks. York is considered to be first pair potential and I am not sure we have that in the system right now.

We have a number of potential scoring forwards relatively near the NHL in Frost, Farabee, and Ratcliffe so I believe this was a smart pick. Just my opinion.

Drafting a D man is basically never exciting. I hope this pick pans out. But I also hope our current crop of defensemen pan out. I guess you can never have enough offensive D men but yeah, we have a lot of offensive D men...

Glad to se the GM doesn’t value draft picks.

Everyone loves the scouts when they picked frost and farabee. Yet don’t trust them in this spot it seems.

- daryl stanley

I admittedly don't know enough about these prospects to determine if it was a reach or not on York, but I read plenty of comments saying he was a good player and it was a good trade.

Seems like a fair trade off to use it.

Oh c’mon.....listen to what he actually says....he makes as many mistakes as he does at guessing right.... don’t get me wrong I like Bob, but there are a lot of guys that I value when it comes to these things. No need to insult me with perhaps the worst GM of all time. Easy kid...we are all on the same side.
- landros 2

No doubt about that .... all on the same team .. all philly fanatics here ...

Saying you take Bob's opinion like a grain of salt .... come on ... like he is prone to be a unreliable source of information is pushing it a bit

Don’t worry, he was awful playing against real competition so he went back to play against weak players.

Don't forget Jay O'Brien.
- Sinisalo4vr

I think if you go back and look when O'Brien was picked, plenty questioned it... and still do, especially after this year.

And same for Morgran Frost, many said he was a 2nd round pick. Working out so far.

Is he that far away? Because of his size?5 years isn't making him any taller. Debrincat didn't take that long at all.
- hereticpride

Outside of the top ten from that 2016 draft, only Charlie McAvoy and Debrincat are making a big impact on their team. Debrincat isn't really comparable because he was selected 39th, meaning he was more of a lucky pick than anything. It really takes a while for players to develop.

Normally I’d want the defenseman. I like the idea of building through a solid blue line.

It’s just that we have so many that are ready to go at such a young age.

Is the cupboard bare? Yeah. It is. But that’s because they’re all getting started like right now! We need to replenish it, but man, we really put together what appears to be a competent group of defenders getting ready all at the same time, and they should be good for quite a few seasons

For once I rallied for the fancy pick over the smart one, because for once the fancy one is what we need more of right now.

I know we have some potential firepower in the system, but I’m just not as confident with them as I am with the pieces put together on our defense

Not a wrong way to look at it but for me I actually see it the other way..

The d prospects are barren right now while there are multiple forward prospects in range of the NHL over the next couple of seasons.

Let me add Jakob Chyrchrun to that list from 2016, drafted 16th and has 91 points in 171 as a defenseman.

I never said he’s unreliable....but as you know there are so many differing opinions...on trades and rumours...ok, Bobs the man..but when it comes to the draft, I’ll trust the scouts when it comes to draft orders and such.

All are young currently so we should be set for a number of years in the NHL and can certainly find others where required outside of the draft. Not one of those 3 mentioned can score like Caufield in my opinion.

Maybe...I was hoping they would grab him just based on his production....sometimes GMs over think it....guys that score help get wins...which is the point of the game .

But look at the rumored money Provy wants. With some good defensemen in the pipeline, we are less likely to be held hostage in the future because we “need” the player. It doesn’t help us now with Provy, just using it as an example. And if we have a solid group of D in the NHL, a puck-moving defensive prospect may bring us something else we need in a trade.

Definitely a big year coming up for him...talented, but will he be able to elevate his game at the higher level next year?

The D was an area of need once Myers and Sanheim graduated. It’s gonna take time for guys like Ginning and St. Ivany to make their up and they have lower ceilings than guys like Sanheim. I understand going with D, although I would’ve liked Broberg, but man, the system really lacks a sniper....darn.
