Considering the blues just won the cup because their backend was so solid, I’m fine with that approach. - landros 2
The Blues traded for sone of those established defensemen. It’s not like they won with Kevin Shattenkirk |

Unbelievable to draft the player they did when better is there. Can’t wait to boo this kid - 2Real
Says the guy posting on the buzz and not sitting at a table in Vancouver pushing for your guy with all the other scouts.
Might not like the pick but why would you boo the kid it’s not his fault.

Unbelievable trade to get a mid 2nd in a murky 1st round. They moved down just 3 picks! - Just5
Happybthey got a 2nd pick. I think that a lot of teams steered clear of caufield thinking hisbgamw may not translate to the nhl. I would have been ok with getting him but my real suspicion is that in a trade York is worth more than caufield. If they want o go for it soon, they can get more for that asset. Or York plays for us and replaces one of the current d.
Look how many teams don't have solid d. (frank)ing oilers traded hall with the hopes of getting one. They're worth a lot. |

What I respect about Montreal after the Cole Caufield pick is, they’re sticking to the small and fast Aspects that they’re known for. The Flyers are known for being big and tough. The broad street bullies. Since trying to get away from what this team has been historically built from, it’s almost as if they’ve been lost without an identity ever since. It’s sad.
There is still room for toughness in the nhl. |

The US development team is really doing a good job so good to see some great kids coming up to the pros. |

As a unit, they’re pretty good. I question their physical game but they play a solid Finesse and skill game. When I went to see the US development team play, I spent the entire first half of the game wondering when the physical play was gonna ramp up. |

How’s our elite sniper depth - 2Real
Not great but its weird to me how 13 other teams passed on the Elite Sniper that is Caulfield.
Take the top 2 out and you still have 11 teams that either didnt want to go with a player that small or some other reason. |

Amen, been saying this for months!! Flyers have no identity as it stands now. The Blues are living proof that you need and can win with a degree of physicality and toughness in your lineup.

Why we would deny being a tough team is beyond me. I’m not saying don’t get fast. Just stick to what you know. |

Yup. You need that physical edge to wear your opponent down. This team is not blessed with elite snipers and playmakers, which if you’re the Caps or TB, can carry you on most nights. However, maybe this trend of the past few years of infusing the lineup with faster, non-aggressive players will fade...STL and BOS both found ways to combine skill, speed to go along with a decent amount of physicality. |

Every team has different needs. It is not like they just passed on him they may have needed something different. We do not have a natural sniper in our system and could have and should have taken a chance on one. |

From Flyers website about Cam York:
* In his first season with the U.S. National Team Development Program (USNTDP), he led all defensemen by averaging over a point per-game with 65 points (14g-51a) in 63 games.
* He led all players on the team with a +56 rating in 63 games.
* Led all defensemen in the 2019 Under-18 World Junior Championships with 11 points (4g-7a) in seven games... Led ALL players in the tournament with a +13 rating in seven games... Helped Team USA win bronze medal.
Third bullet is my fav. |

I believe the closest we have to a sniper is Wade Allison. Interesting prospect and a shame his season got derailed by injury. |

I don't mind the York pick. Caufield is flashy and can score but his diminutive size adds a certain amount of risk to the pick in terms of can this kid play against the big men of the NHL? Not saying he can't, but it's a question that I'm sure loomed large in NHL draft rooms of those who passed. Montreal obviously doesn't mind the small player (Gallagher, Peca, Byron) so we'll see how it goes with him. York, for his part looks to be kind of overshadowed on the star studded USNTDP team, but he was absolutely a key player for them. I can see he is a pretty good skater with good lateral and backward movement. He has very high offensive awareness. His vision and passing are top notch. His strong mobility and awareness seem to drive possession and his excellent vision and passing ability allows him to routinely set players up with the puck in position to score. All of these things make him very effective on the PP as well. He doesn't have the point shot of say a Ghost, but does have similar mobility and better passing.
I think the trade back to 14 adding the 45th was a slick move. They may be able to snag a round one type who slipped (Lavoie, Kaliyev etc.) or maybe take a "flyer" on overager with size and skill like Brett Leason. York could give the Flyers some flexibility down the line if they need to ship off one of the more developed young D men off in a deal for a catalyst up front. Time will tell. |
