The marleau deal was stupid. I'm not sure how they'll get out of that. Buyout? Trade? - Hextall271
Buyout doesnt work for Marleau. They dont get any space from it, i think its because its a 35+ contract |

If someone offer sheets marner they could be screwed. - Hextall271
If someone offersheets Provorov, Flyers could be screwed. I was kidding around the other night about Provorov getting an offersheet but maybe it's not that absurd. Would a team overpay Provorov to get a potential young franchise D? And if the Flyers match, they would have to lose Sanheim or Konecny.

Assuming Marner signs the offer sheet. People always seem to forget that the player has to accept it. - jmatchett383
Why wouldnt he? If someone is willing to give him the cash he wants he isnt going to turn it down. He also knows any offer is going to be matched so it ends negotiations immediately. |

Words cant express how pissed off I am that Fletcher, Holmgren, and Comcast pissed away all the cap space we suffered through the last five years clearing off. And for what? To lose in the first round in 7 games instead of 5?
So here we are, right back to having to deal players away to get under the cap. I hope it is JVR but that is a pipe dream.

and if the Flyers didnt match it what would they get? First-, second-, and third-round pick? Two first-round picks and a second- and third-round pick? |

If someone offer sheets Provorov in the neighborhood of 8-10 then thats not on Fletcher. I like Provorov but I can't reasonably feel he is worth that.
If anything I think teams would far more be likely to offer sheet guys like McAvoy and Werenski before Provorov. |

The fact that they didn't ice Morin until they were mathematically eliminated seemed to say a lot too. - hereticpride
Agree, I get we want Morin to make the cut, but he is below Hagg on the depth chart who kindly we can label an average 6 dman.
For these reasons, I don t think Ghost is on the trade block for a fwd. Certainly, I could be proven wrong, but I just dont see it. |

I still believe the Braun trade is an indictment on the performance of Hagg and to a lesser extent Morin. I hope I m not proven wrong tonight.
Also, I think they want Talbot back as the back up, but my guess is below 2 million. - ravishingone
I just think Fletch and AV want 2+ seasoned vets, to sprinkle into the mix. Going into last year, AMAC/Gudas were penciled-in as top 4 / bottom 4 vets... AMAC sucked at top 4, Gudas played well enough at the bottom 4. However, Fletch wanted a better defensive-defensemen. Substitute Nisky/Braun as top 4 / bottom 4 guys. I don't think Braun (or Nisky) this says anything about the younger defensemen. We are moving from last years potential log jam, to log jam. The 6 younger guys are going to compete for the available 5 more jobs. One is probably gone unless Fletch carrier 8 d-men. The other option is that Fletch has one guy to "burn", if a good deal pops up to fill a perceived gap (RW'er for example). It depend on who the RW'er is... If he's a top-notch guy, Ghost is gone... If he's a average Joe, Hagg is gone. Morin is really the wild card from sitting out with the injury. We really don't know what he's going to do, do we have a Pronger or Rathje. If we trade Ghost, I hope Morin will pan-out. We should be alright regardless if Hagg is the trade. |

I agree 1000000% I also lay blame at the philly media and fan base. Screaming for drama about winning now. Hexy was with la and saw first hand how it takes 10 years to fully build a cup team when you have no top prospects. Doing things like trading pick 41 for Braun for 1 year? Just stupid. Typical old philly way. It’s doesnt work.

The first tier the flyers match, they are going to give him around 8 away... We have a big enough stable of players that 10+, I'd take the first 4 picks. The middle tier, I would have to think about more... Who's the team - are they going to suck during the years of the 2 first rounders... Is the offer closer to 8 or 10...

I guess why I think Ghost is staying because if he goes for a fwd, 2 guys that will probably be used in the top 6 this season will be free agents in a yr- Braun and Hagg. Granted Hagg is restricted. Morin really hasn t played in 2 yrs. Right or wrong, I don t think he gets much of a shot until one of the top 6 misses time with injury.
You make good points and I could very well be proven wrong shortly. |
