And devils get subban. We might be the worst team in the division
- Tfaehner

they have 2 really good young centers now, I’m more worried about that then pk

But the Devils and the 30 million in cap space they have are saddled with that entire awful contract.
- PLindbergh31

Right.

I’m surprised they didn’t help themselves to an additional first via marleau.

So the bolded pretty much seals Ghost's fate then.
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

Ghost is the #1 PP dman on the team, so he'd slide in behind him

That’s obviously worrisome too, but by the time both of them are clicking to their full capacity the pens window will be nonexistent anyway.

Subban isn’t a top five guy in the league, but I still consider him an upper level defenseman which is something they needed here and now to take the next step. They really didn’t give up much to get him at all.

It was probably a pipe dream but I hope the pens at least kicked the tires on a deal for him centered around Schultz and picks .

But Fletch said that York would slide behind Provorov on 2nd PP. Doesnt that put Prov on 1st PP?

Nah. Draft picks for aging veteran rentals is the way to go. Look at the dividends Kubina paid.

as we have read over and over again, having cap space is an asset (until you use it and it’s gone)
- Marc D

The majority of the cap space the flyers had was going to the 5 RFA they had no? So much real cap space did the flyers really have?

Not enough to trade for Ehlers or PK or to take an extra first for Marleau

We're talking about a player who won't be on the team for probably 3 years. This is a pointless debate.

https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/flyers/why-flyers-picked-cam-york-over-cole-caufield-2019-nhl-draft

From the article, bolding mine:

The Michigan-bound lefty shot scored over a point per game in 2018-19 with 65 points, a USNTDP single-season record for a defenseman, while maintaining a plus-56 rating.
Stupid Fletcher drafting a player who broke the scoring record for defensemen of an elite National Hockey program! What are the odds he's any good!

- Coburns_Nose

I love you for this!

Team negative and the Cole train are not gonna like these facts though

That Marleau deal worked out for the Leafs. Nice to have to give up a first round pick to get rid of a 40 year old player.
