He was able to skate up and down the wing with impunity and score from the perimeter because nobody could reach the puck to get it off his stick.

That poop ain't gonna fly in the pros. Gaps are closer, dmen are bigger, you get swarmed the minute you get near the blueline, and goalies don't let in floaters nearly as often.

Agree there. Lavoie from Halifax will experience same growth.

That depends on this seasons cap increase and next. We can make room next season.

We still dont know if JVR and Voracek are part of Fletchers vision of the team, Niskanen can be moved if the young kids excel. We dont need 4th line guys making 1-2 mill each

Gudas cap is gone
Braun is gone

There are things the team can do to make space

Agreed. But we shouldn't be in a position to have to worry about it to begin with. That is what really chaps my a$$.

I love Ron Hextall was allowed 5 years to do his work and Fletcher hasn't even got past his first draft and his plan is wrong.

Why? They knew this summer was the big year against the cap. That's why Schenn was traded for 2 1st rounders and Simmonds traded with no thoughts of bringing him back.

I get what people are saying but we haven't even allowed for the draft or free agency. Maybe Fletcher has a plan to reshape the roster and move some cap off this roster.

There are always things you can do to maneuver around the cap but a lot of them are not good for a developing team. You should never put yourself in that position if you're not a legit contender. When you have a lot of good young players, cap wise you become a victim of your own success. That is the nature of the cap but you don't compound that future issue with your own moves. Look at Toronto, they have a lot of good young players and cap issues. They aren't good enough and are likely going to have to make moves that they ordinarily wouldn't do. Worst place to be. Making moves like adding Marleau are going to cost them and they haven't won squat. Realistically what are the Flyers going to do this upcoming season to justify it?

I'm keeping an open mind on fletch until his moves are complete. So far there's been nothing over the top. My bigger problem is the mandate from above to go for it now, but hope Fletch sticks to the plan of sticking with the youth until it's go time.

False narrative. If you're at a point where you're a legit contender and have a real shot at it, the cap position the Flyers are in is fine. In fact it's where you should be. When you're in the position the Flyers are in which is a developing team that is not a legit contender, then being in that position is not fine when you have as many good quality young players as they have. It's nuanced.

I can understand this. My worry (and I realize it is worst case) is that we see all of the younger players we have being bled away because we cant afford to pay them due to cap issues. I don't want to become Toronto and have our window being slammed shut before it should be.

But all this is just opinion. Not fact.

We just saw a playoffs where all the number 1 seeds lost, an Islanders team lose their generational captain and play better, a Canes team went to the ECF and a St. Louis team who played old school hockey with a rookie goalie win the cup.

Hockey people might see more then you or i do.

Jvr-Giroux-Couturier-Voracek
Niskanen

PP2
Lindblom-Patrick-Ehlers-Konecny
Sanheim

PK1
Hayes-Raffl
Provorov-Braun

PK2
Laughton-Lindblom
Hagg-Myers

It’s a great spread of ice time imo.

And in one off season, it appears that Fletcher is throwing away a lot of the room Hextall gave us from 5 years of suffering.

Fletcher should have taken of the in-house issues first imo (RFA's). Then you can truly see how much cap space you have to work with and how much room you have to make additions!

Just like to me it's a false narrative that Fletch is an abject failure 6 months into is job..

Again...that infamous magic 2 years from now that has to come some point in the business world.

There is 0 wrong IMO for the Team trying to do what it believes it needs to do to be competitive which is something the Flyers were not under Hexy.
