That can only mean one thing ... Toews is getting traded to free up cap space to sign Perry.

Most are conditional on the new cap number being announced... tomorrow...
- Slofire94

Nothing is a given but everyone in the know is fairly certain it will be 81.5-82. Being allowed to be over by 10% in the summer GM’s know where the are at and what they can do. I have a hard time believing that the delay in moves is based on the official number being released.

Would you rather have Marner at $11M or Cat at $8M - or even $9M?

For me, that's a tough call, especially with the Hawks cap situation already having $21M tied up in 2 players. The $2M-$3M difference between Marner and Cat would be a big deal in constructing a competitive lineup.

- EbonyRaptor

Marner hands down! Very, very good two way player, who I think has the best vision of any player in the NHL. When Boston played the leafs the last two playoffs it was Marner not Matthews they targeted to shut down. I think Marner is one of the top 5 players in the NHL.

he's 6' I thought?

EDIT: NVM he's 5'11 per NHL.com. I think whoever they take will be a GOOD NHL Player, but who has the highest potential to be GREAT?? Hard to say but man Byram is a monster as are Cozens and Dach.....

- EnzoD

Byram is a whole inch taller than Turcotte.

If he didnt have a serious Hip Injury I would be 100% onboard with Turcotte as the pick. I'm confident that Turcotte will be a solid 2C, but I think there could be more upside/ceiling in Dach or Byram. A lot to love about Turcotte's combination of skill and will/heart/compete, but a 17yr old that dominated the big boy Jr League of the WHL and draws Scott Neidermeir comparisons......

Byram, Dach, Turcotte, Cozens in that order for my preferences. If they aren't taking Byram I think they should aggressivley pursue a trade down with LA/DET/COL

- EnzoD

You have a link that describes it as a serious hip injury? Cause he came back and produced at a higher PPG than Hughes.

the problem is if you are not close come july 2nd on the cap. you have no bargaining power. look at the leddy and sharp trades. Trades after july 2nd with no money coming back are generally not very good returns. if it comes in at 81 that is a lot compared to 83.

We're getting into boner season where height and weight seems to excite some posters more than skill.

Although that's not fun for us right now it's probably the right thing for them to do if they're working on a deal.

If the Blackhawk Doctors are OK with Turcotte's health, so am I. If the Hawk Scouts are OK with Byram's defense, so am I. If If the Hawk Scouts are OK with Cozen's hockey IQ, so am I. If the Hawk Scouts are OK with Dach's skating, so am I. Like you, I'd like to see Byram selected but i have a feeling Turcotte will be their choice.
- paulr

There is nothing wrong with Dach's skating. FYI. And if two way play is what people want, like me, Dach/Turcotte are the choices. LBR posted a link a couple blogs ago where there was a very detailed look at Cozens, Dach and Krebs. It was really interesting since it was able to compare the 3 players in the same league with the same competition.

Dach's defensive play was off the chart. Literally.

You got me going.

Tallest NHL player ever: Zdeno Chara
Standing 2.04 m (6 ft 9 in) tall, defenceman Zdeno Chara (Slovakia) of the Boston Bruins (USA) is the tallest player in NHL history.

Shortest NHL player ever: Roy "Shrimp" Worters
Roy "Shrimp" Worters (October 19, 1900 – November 7, 1957) was a Canadian professional Hockey Hall of Fame goaltender who played twelve seasons in the National Hockey League for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Montreal Canadiens and New York Americans, and was notable for recording 66 shutouts in his career and being, at 5'3" tall, the shortest player ever to play in the NHL.

My point has nothing to do with Dach's skating. My point is, posters are looking for any small negative quote and using it so the guy they like will look better. Some people have said Dach's skating isn't his strong suit, suddenly he can't skate. Some have said Cozen's hockey IQ isn't as strong as others, suddenly he can't process the game. And in this care Enzo referenced Turcotte's injury as if he was an invalid to justify Byram being chosen.

Not only excites but determines which player is better. Oh and MacKinnion is less than 6 feet, too.

If JT is going up to the podium, got a hunch it will be a forward selected. Turcotte plays a solid game. I think hawks take a forward

There's also interest on Cory Perry apparently. Not a fan of that idea.
- Tyler Cameron

I think Perry and The Preds is where that is going...Preds are looking for goals and actually a better guaranteed that Perry sees post season.
I am with the group that my sustain for Perry runs deep & I remember hearingv
that supposedly besides being an sob with opposing players, he also was pretty much a douche with teammates but the underlying fact is at the right price he fill a need, in more than Chicago & Nashville

The number is either 81.5 or 82. 500k should not be holding teams back especially Vegas.

Dude. I know all that. I was just saying I watched Dach a few times and his skating is excellent. He doesn't have elite speed like Cozens but when taking all things into consideration, Dach is probably the better SKATER. His edge work is exquisite.

Buttman said cap was going to be either 81.5 or 82. One of those two numbers. FWIW.

And Gifman is right, that should not completely halt everything which it seems it is. Not sure why it's so quiet.
